Not our best first half so far. This team is very good. The first game that I don’t sure that we are more talented such that we can mount a comeback, but here’s hoping.

Assist/TO ratios for our 8 with significant minutes: player | assists | turnovers | ratio | minutes | M. Arens | 10 | 5 | 2.00 | 35.3 | T. Frederick | 8 | 4 | 2.00 | 21.5 | L. Korngable | 6 | 3 | 2.00 | 15.5 | C. Duffy | 24 | 13 | 1.85 | 38.8 | J. Ugofsky | 1 | 1 | 1.00 | 7.0 | C. Lamb | 9 | 14 | 0.64 | 36.8 | M. McKeever | 6 | 10 | 0.60 | 34.3 | H. Sjerven | 1 | 5 | 0.20 | 20.8 |
So what can we learn from these numbers? I know what my takeaway might be, going into a game against a tough, ball-hawking team........ (our point guards are at the bottom, so maybe we should reconsider who brings the ball upcourt?) These are actually unbelievably poor numbers from our guards who tend to handle the ball a lot. I’m not sure how Chloe and Madison don’t have more assists simply given the fact that you’ll stumble over a few assists per game just by virtue of being on the floor as much as they are. I guess it makes me feel better knowing that we’re 4-0 but still have room to grow.

Talk about gutsy. Wow. Lamb and Arens will get a lot of love for the shots late but McKeever was the hero of that one to me. It was nice to see her look to score when the offense was struggling. She has always been a great defender but tonight we saw some flashes of what made her such a prolific scorer in high school. Even when she didn’t shoot she was drawing defenders with that great shot fake and drive. Agree with all of this. Mckeevers shots were so big and will probably go unnoticed. This really was a team effort game, exactly what you want to see for a top tier team. Though I’m still slightly worried that it took some amazing contested threes late in the game to win. Our ball movement against the zone was never very good, but the fact that we still won is a good sign.

No matter the outcome, I’m proud of these girls. Lots of fight.

Duffy not getting many touches. Not sure if that’s because of Drake or us. Would like to see that or throw the bank in to Hannah more.

I think you've got to take the last two losses last season with a grain of salt. If Sjerven and Duffy are fully healthy this team will be able to beat just about anybody on a given night. They're going to miss the hustle, toughness and clutch FT shooting from Arens, particularly early in the season, but I also wouldn't be surprised if the ball moves a little better offensively without her. The flip side of that is that they will also miss her ability to get to the basket and draw a foul when things bogged down offensively. It will be interesting to see how they overcome her absence and who, if anybody, steps up and becomes that closer from the stripe. ^^^^^this^^^^^ Just want to emphasize this one more time. Agree with it 100 percent. I think that we were always going to rise and fall with Duffy. People don't realize how many little things that she did from a ball movement, matchup-nightmare/spacing standpoint, etc. that make it so much easier for everyone else. Yet we are going to miss Arens on defense way more than most people probably realize. Her rebounding especially will be something that is hard to replace with the smaller guards who'll play in her stead. I don't think we'll miss her offense as much though.

Except maybe even a better shooter? I think she could see some time as a freshman.

Glad others are starting to notice the talent that we've been watching in South Dakota for many years. Miller and Duffy are great ones.

My real hope is they knock off Clemson and in a deciding way. What a feather in their hat. I know everyone that posts on here knows this but they are one special group of young ladies coached by a complete class act. They truly deserve something special. Ya at this point I just hope Duffy is healthy and that we can compete with Clemson's press. Anything after that (like competing with Miss St) is just extra that I'll take however it turns out.

The thing that gets lost in the offensive stuff she does is that when she's out or hobbled the defense doesn't work quite like it does when she's healthy, either. Having a 6-1 kid who can usually guard just about all five spots and is one of your smartest players makes a lot of the switching they do possible. There's just so much that goes into what she does on both ends that it really is impossible to replace. Offense, defense, transition, passing, range shooting, rebounding, that was just a massive blow to have to play through. OK. I'm done. This. These are better words for exactly what I was thinking. Having a 6-1 kid who can both play the 4 and shoot from 25 feet is what makes us competitive against the best teams like ISU, Missouri, and SDSU. It just seems like she was the absolute last person that we could lose. But maybe I'm just frustrated in losing to SDSU yet again. Doesn't mean we're wrong though.

That is good news. Hopefully the committee sees it the same way. I still think it's more likely we around a 9 or 10

I thought our passing was uncharacteristically bad, as well. McKeever in particular had a few head-scratchers there. We just weren't in rhythm on offense. Maybe Duffy being gone was part of that. Bad luck. I hope her ankle is OK. Anyone on the inside know how bad it is? Even mild sprains are usually a couple weeks.

Also, do any of the people who follow the numbers know if we are still a lock for the tournament?

83-71 Final state straight up shot better, congrats on the title. USD FG 23/71 32%, 3PT 6/27 22% SDSU FG 24/48 50%, 3PT 9/18 50% Stat that sticks out to me is USD had the rebound advantage 39-34 with the offensive reb. advantage 19-4. Couldn't take advantage of it. Some of these stats in your attachment (where did you get these?) really stand out: Theunick with the insane 7 minutes and +17! Selland, though she played well in the first two games, was a -13. SDSU was much better with her off the court. Hannah played only 20 minutes but we were a +7 with her on the court (that early foul trouble killed us with her) Lamb just played awful. Maybe the nerves? But 2-11 and a -20 (including lots of forced shots) Monica took 13 shots. Seemed like SDSU was baiting her with open looks. She's a great defender, but I'm not sure we're gonna do that great with her taking that many shots. Allison played all 40 minutes and we needed every minute to stay as close as we did Korngable had 4 fouls but we were even with her on the court. she played really hard throughout I thought McKeever with another bad night. I think her bad shooting of late (1-7 today) might be affecting her overall play
