All the favorites won in the MAC quarterfinals. Semis today. Root for Central Mich. I caught a little of some of those games. The MAC teams all lack size, and I didn't see a whole lot of standout shooters, either. Just decent speed and ball-handling. If SDSU is really matched up against Ohio in the first round (current bracketology) they will destroy them, IMO. Like by 30 or 40. Also, I know this isn't a newsflash, but they were playing in front of, like, maybe 80 fans. MAC fans barely show up for football, so I guess I'm not too surprised. James Madison and Rice both play today @ 11AM. We want them to win.[/b] I noticed JM lost and Rice won yesterday. Rice plays Western KY today at 5:30. What does this mean for the Yotes?

I thought a sprained ankle was supposed to be treated more proactively...cold for 48 hours and then contrast bathes all the while doing the ABCs with your foot for range of motion. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery. Nah, when you've kicked as much @$$ as Duffy has with that foot, you're good to go. More of a "hold my beer" situation at this point for her. He said while praying, wishing, hoping, and crossing fingers she is good to go.

But the big story will not be the announcement, it will be the action on the floor and who is going to the dance. (hoping for a fourpete on the men's side and two dancers on the women's side when all is said and done.) With the Sioux Falls media, I highly doubt that. The news will be Augie and it will overshadow anything else. Like a turd in the punchbowl at the big party. Douple is also speaking at Lunch With The U at Pizza Ranch on 41st Street this Thursday, as he has for several years. You can bet we will also try and find out whatever we can about any announcement. Jacks fans are welcome to attend. Just let them know at the door you are there for Lunch With The U as 10% of your bill goes to support the Howling Pack.

Missouri knocked off #10 Tennessee yesterday in women's hoops, which makes our December 15 win over the Tigers an even bigger "quality win." Although we lost to a Denver team that caught lightning in a bottle, the win over SDSU yesterday should help our standings remain relatively unchanged I would hope, but alas, what makes sense and what actually happens are sometimes unrelated. =)

The above post is Billy Madison-esque. How is Augie related here?

Last year there was no way we were going into the Fargodome on senior day and after they just lost the Marker game and winning. The score reflected that. If memory serves this was also the week following our secondary scandal. Lots of things not working our way that day. Not to dog-pile, but wasn't Lakes not in attendance too? Difference makers like that can't go unmentioned. =)

Man, a trademark BOOM-SHA-KALA post from TheBackSackDad saying his kid was cleared to play would be nice right now...

Yotes need to get better on 3rd down and it has to start with establishing the run, whether that is through Simmons tucking it and going or a steady diet to Klett, Brooks, and Henry.
Last week Missouri State was 6-14 against the Redbirds on 3rd down and the Bears were only flagged 4 times for 52 yards. Their time of possession was 34:23 with 232 yard through the air and 162 on the ground for a total of 394. I should note that Illinois State had 240 yards passing and 128 yards running for a total of 368 total yards.
The Bears' QB Peyton Huslig threw 2 picks in that game so hopefully Kline, Greenfield, Peguero, Whitcomb and others up front get put some pressure and force a few bad throws down field to an improving USD secondary. Would be nice to see a few blitz packages from our defense. Looks like the Bears' #52 on defense is going to be a stud and cause fits and I believe he leads the Valley in sacks right now, if he doesn't, he's in the race.
I was very disappointed with the number of penalties the Yotes had against UNC, then at Weber, and then last week at SIU. USD had 5 penalties for 35 yards at K State; 7 penalties for 75 against UNC; 11 penalties for 101 yards at Weber; and 16 penalties for 138 yards at SIU. Not a good trajectory and we are very fortunate it did not cost us the game against the Salukis. There is way too much trash talking going on right now. I have read various commenters note on here for years that they like to see a little attitude and kids play with a chip on their shoulder. You can do that, but when the whistle blows, get back in the huddle and make another play for your team. If you did something good, we all know it, your coaches know it, and the guy you beat knows it. Time to start acting like you know it too.
Finally, I think special teams looks much improved. Our punter is turning in to a good one and our field goal and extra points looked dramatically improved.
Looking forward to a great Saturday in Vermillion. Going to be a tough Bears squad to beat, but if the Yotes stop shooting themselves in the foot with penalties I like our chances. Go Yotes!

Thanks for digging up those numbers. I am missing Lunch with the U today and was looking forward to hearing Coach talk about this year's team. If someone could post an update after it is done and breakdown of what was discussed that would be much appreciated.

Nice work sportschic. Are your numbers from the updated weights posted on the roster or are they the old weights? Could perhaps match up on paper even closer if they are from last year and don't reflect gains in the weight room. Always a slippery slop playing that game, but that's what this time of year is for right? =)

Super proud of Chris and our T&F coaching staff. I would hope breaking a 22 year old record after winning the title is enough to secure the Bowerman Award too. We shall see...

Nice work kiyoat. Would be interesting to compare football attendance with the above institution numbers as well as student enrollment, athletic budgets, university budgets, and university endowments.
I have talked with two former Augie athletes and two other alumni about this who I am close with (and in full disclosure, one is my wife), and none thought a move to D-1 was a good long-term decision. Not a scientific poll by any stretch, which I readily admit. =)
