Looks like SDSU is not only tough, but a match-up nightmare for USD.
Quite a bit to be excited about heading into this one.
Resumption of one of the Country's oldest FB rivalry games. Playoff spot on the line with USD playing spoiler. Potential record crowd for a FB game in SD.
SDSU should be a heavy favorite.

The OL played one of their better games of the year and that at least gave USD a chance. JVM took advantage of the protection and played an all around great game. I know I have been critical of him and he deserves credit for his performance today.
The defense gave their best effort of the year. Glenn needs to start suspending repeat personal foul offenders. Those 4 penalties for 60 yards changed the game. The players who keep committing those are stupid, selfish, or just out of control. Do we want our team to have a reputation as the cheap shot artists of the MVFC?
Jasper Sanders looked good - he has steadily improved. Sims did not play the first half at all. Anyone hear why? Suspension?
Another muffed KO return by Terry hurt. He also let an almost certain TD pass go through his hands. Ended up being huge - that drive ended with a missed FG.
In the end - another loss. Next week looks tough at CAS.

UNI has the 2nd best scoring offense in the MVFC - USD has the worst defense.
Unless USD wins the turnover margin by +3 it will not be close. My guess is UNI will score at least 7 more than USD each quarter. Hope I am wrong.
Anything can happen in college football - it will take the best game in years for the Yotes to win.

SDSU vs USD will most likely always be one of the last two regular season games. SDSU wants either a USD or NDSU team in CAS late season to be an attendance draw. Imagine if we had SDSU in the Dome to end the year this year - we would have a record sellout crowd versus the 4-5k we will most likely see against UNI. I think having the game at that time is a great idea.
As far as the holes in the schedule early - there will be games added. I believe we can play 12 regular season games in '13 & '14. The only concern I have is it would be nice to have a bye week a few weeks into the MVFC to get some rest for our team.

Below is from TV's blog on the Argus site. Tells how USD could get in the 4 team VB tournament.
If Oakland, UMKC, SDSU, USD and NDSU all finish at 8-8. SDSU would be 3-5 against those teams. Oakland is 3-5 against those teams. NDSU would be 5-3 against those teams. USD is 5-3 against those teams. UMKC is 4-4 against those teams. Tiebreaker 1: Results of each tied team’s collective record against the other teams tied for the same position. That eliminates SDSU, Oakland and UMKC, and puts USD and NDSU in the field.

From what I have heard, there will not be a game in Sioux Falls next year because the administration was completely disappointed with the turnover of USD fans. That is why I put (potentially in SF) vs (in SF.) There has not been a final decision either way depending on what the SFSA offers and profitability. They are leaning towards not doing a FB game in SF next year.

Announcing Earl as the starting QB will increase both adult and student attendance by at least 20%. If it didn't happen after Indiana St I don't see it happening this season. Earl will have to win the job this Spring. Would rather see Earl get two games under his belt against good defenses (no matter how ugly it could be) to give him some real game experience heading into next year's schedule.

This FB season has been the most painful in memory. That being said it is senior day - the last time many players that have invested a great amount of time and effort into the program will suit up at home. I fear attendance will be putrid - actual attendance in the 3000 - 3500 range. As bad as this year has been - I know I have enjoyed watching several of these guy's careers.
2012 Seniors:
Will Powell Tim Marlette Marcus Sims Tim Ross Quintin McMartin Cole Zwiefelhofer Darius Hogans David Giese Jordan Eaton Zachary Wilson Kyle Shanker Jerrod Freidel D'Angelo Butler Mike Garvey James Caraway Jay Burns Joel DeJongh Walter Reed Donny Alves-Fortes

Argus Leader article on the game (written by a Youngstown reporter....) www.argusleader.com/article/20121104/SPORTS0203/311040035/Coyotes-stop-shy-first-Missouri-Valley-win?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|Sounds like the SD FB team is tickled to be competitive. “I thought we were competing at a very high level. ... We haven’t given up.” “We kept it close, and the last couple weeks we hadn’t,” “It’s good to get the team morale up and get us moving a little bit as an offense.” That is how they feel after playing a broken, sloppy team like YSU in front of one of the more sterile Homecoming crowds I've seen. USD had 12 first downs vs 23 for YSU 121 rushing vs 228 (203 for Cook a career high) 85 passing vs 133 5 penalties - I believe 4 against the OL Are we supposed to feel good that JVM didn't lose the game for us with a few pick sixes? USD needed a QB that could go for the win yesterday. YSU was another missed opportunity like Illinois State, Western Illinois, and MO St.

Looks like Mick didn't even make the trip to Youngstown. He is tweeting from the HS playoffs.

the defense played well enough to get a win if SD had an offense. I guess if you consider letting the opponent rush for over 200yds again, good enough. At least there was better effort today.
On offense - the OL is incredibly soft and undisciplined. Another penalty plagued day for the OL. The coaches played JVM against a team that is soft on pass defense and top 10 ranked against the run. Frankly surprised they scored 10. I guess the TD came after the kick block and a personal foul penalty so basically the possession and drive started on the YSU 25 - the defense really teed up the TD.
Tough season to watch. UNI blew out western Illinois today 40-0. That should be fun next week.

Par for the course! I stopped subscribing to the AL 5 yrs ago, stopped reading AL print over 3 years ago and stopped reading AL online over a year ago. Just can't justify supporting the AL with its failed level of coverage. If you compare writers efforts and approach....Either MG is doing a below average job or TV is going 'above and beyond'. I've thrown my consumer resources towards JH and Yankton paper. JH does a chat as well. I suggest everyone attend...I think you'll find it much more substantive! If consumers don't make the AL pay for its choices then nothing will change. I certainly understand your thoughts in regards to the Argus. For full disclosure I am not happy with the Argus coverage of USD athletics. It has gotten a little better this year though. The Argus keeps track of user interest through clicks and participation on weekly chats and game chats. SDSU has way more participation from fans on both. SDSU clicks on stories are more than double USD stories. Ask Mick sometime - he will tell you he would like more articles - it is interest driven. There is not a conspiracy - the Managing Editor of the Argus is Patrick Lalley (USD grad that attends some football and basketball games every year and even wears Yote gear around town at times). We all need to work on building our interest and more coverage will happen. Whether we like it or not the Argus is the dominant daily paper in the immediate region. It will be better for USD if we can get more coverage.
