Wow that is an optimistic spread. Basically a 3 score game. I hope we beat it.

I'm a day late coming back to this, still holding strong opinions that apparently aren't well received here (comparisons to Coyotefan hurt lol). I don't need to derail everything though. I can see it isn't productive. I however do want to make clear to anyone unfamiliar that the quote below is 100% true. The big red bus is a very welcoming place - in Vermillion or on the road. If you seek a place to be they are happy to have you (in a dream tailgate setup, no less). I know I've done so in Verm, Cedar Falls, Manhattan, Norman and probably more. We are all in this together. I hope people see this even when we disagree. Lastly, I have said this before but I’ll say it again. I tailgate in the northeast corner of the parking lot where the Big Red Bus and portable bar are. EVERYONE on this board is welcome to join us. If you know you’re coming it would be nice to know in advance so we can prepare the amount of food we need to accommodate you and your guests, but you’re welcome to come anyway. If you want to chip in to pay for food and drink you can, but not necessary

Time zone isn't a factor. Long travel and quality of opponent are.

Interesting that the university added more parking and people are complaining about it. That new lot to the south of the SCSC is priority parking. Why is that a good thing? Because it will allow in the future for them to move some of the priority parking out of the east lot down to the south so they can expand the tailgate nation lot. Now we just need more people dedicated to tailgating every game, bot just once or twice per year. It's a good thing that existing tailgating was killed in favor of maybe having some in the future? Anyone who thinks that "priority" fans are going to be the anchor that grows tailgating is misguided. The university needs to do whatever it can to attract common people to have a great gameday experience and become loyal fans. SDSU has this part right. Open lots for all to come have a good time in. Instead we've paved over lots like that in favor of gratifying a couple people who would never tailgate anyways.

It will cost $50 million to renovate and have less seats, yet the Dome upgrade which is a much more cost prohibitive DOME was a waste. That is the thought of many jacks fans, which is hypocritical. I'm sure it will be nice and is a much needed upgrade. It's a historic venue and to not keep the name in some way seems odd. Hopefully they update that piss stained yellow floor as well. I can make a much better argument that they spent way more money for a worse situation with their outdoor stadium and indoor practice barn.

Looks great. Glad we finally have a "finished" dome. I miss the band being a prominent part of the game. The Dome will look better on TV now. I bet the luxury boxes are a one-of-a-kind experience and bring in great revenue. I don't think we are selling out on D Days anymore. I really like the new lights that came with this renovation.

Original Frost Arena had a capacity of 9,000 plus. Current configuration has capacity of 6,500. Once remodeled, the capacity will be further reduced to 5,500. Sure, but those 9,000 seats sucked. It was a high school gym that got way too big.

I am not impressed at that Fresno State result. I do think it's worth noting that San Diego, despite being non-scholarship, has consistently won the Pioneer and some 1st round playoff games.
A win at Cal Poly would be very significant. Playing on the road is always hard and they aren't slouches. 2-1 in non-conference has to be our bare minimum each year if we are going to be playoff contenders. Let's clear that hurdle.

I got a photo about 45 minutes before the game so that might not be of much help. I would estimate about 6,000 today. edit: 5247 was the listed paid attendance and I don't think this was inflated at all. Is this real? The outside tailgate area seemed like it was full of people. My guess is all 5,000 or so were tailgating too. Are you referring to the parking lot immediately outside the east entrance? That may have been full, but that makes up a very small number of people. I'll admit that I got to the dome late (12:30ish) but from what I could tell there wasn't any tailgating to be found in the other areas. The grass parking south of the dome used to be a good tailgating spot, but its concrete replacement had 20-30 cars in it (seriously, what the hell?) and no one hanging out. The concrete lot south of that was at 100% capacity, but I didn't see anyone tailgating. I'm guessing the students had a good showing outside? I didn't walk by their dedicated section before the game. I walked by the pool party at The Heights and that was insane. I'm concerned the already fractured tailgate experience has been doomed further by the new parking lot no one can use and the house party across the street. It's increasingly a situation where you either pay an obscene amount of money to be in the VIP lot or you don't get a tailgate experience. I've complained for years about our tailgate situation and it only gets worse every year.

Summit football remains an intriguing idea to me. Snag a couple schools like Eastern Illinois and SE Missouri State and I think we could pull it off. Both are relatively in our footprint, seem generally okay in athletics, and would give us 7 football Summit schools (8 if St Thomas joined too).

You just have to wonder if there are season ticket holders not using seats because of the indoor stadium and covid. There has to be a few. I sat in the 5th row on the east side, about the 40 yard line, and the 4 rows in front of me were very empty. There's definitely ticketholders who didn't go to the game yesterday.

I'd wager that the Big 12 dissolves before its new members join, as there is no way the remaining 8 members are happy staying. That would lead to some schools getting edged out of the "power 5", creating a more crowded G5 landscape, which is something that shouldn't impact the FCS at all in my eyes.

Did anyone take a photo of the west side today so I could see how many fans were there? Here is a picture from the broadcast. It gets bigger if you click it.

The difference for me is that NDSU, State and the likes have proven they are a perennially a championship threat in the league. They've already established themselves as a top-tier team and they, along with the rest of the FCS, know they belong in the contender conversation regardless of who they play outside the conference. As it stands right now, we would be an absolute juggernaut out on the east coast but still have a ways to go to compete in the conference, where it counts. The fact of the matter is, we can trick ourselves into thinking we're a great team by beating up on a bunch of lesser competition then get brought back to reality in a harsh way when we have to play the teams from our own conference. Or, we could become one of those teams that doesn't have to prove anything to anybody and don't need to tune up on some team from the Patriot League. And when we start winning 90% of our conference games and make it to the national championship game every other year like Alabama, I might change my mind about scheduling gimme games. Iron sharpens iron gentlemen. You don't get better running up the score on Drake. And right now, that's what we need - to get better. There's no shortcuts or easy way to get there. Just having a winning season doesn't make it a successful one when you beat a bunch of nobodies. In 2017 our out of conference games were Drake, who was crushed, Bowling Green and UND, who both struggled that season. Not exactly murderer's row. After winning those three games in convincing fashion, the 'Yotes went 4-4 in league play, qualified for the playoffs, beat Nichols State and then lost to Sam Houston in a barnburner. I don't care how it's done, I just want USD in the playoffs. I'd wager that was comfortably our easiest non-conference schedule since joining the MVFC. That 4-4 easily could (should?) have been 6-2 even. The quality of the non-conference competition didn't seem to have any bearing on the team's preparedness. I've been buying more season tickets than I need for several years. That was the one season where I had no trouble filling the extra seats. There are a lot of concrete perks to an easier schedule. I don't want to play cupcakes forever, but a building program has good reason to schedule them.

If Alabama can play Western Carolina in week 10 without shame then we can play a Pioneer team every year.
