The bunnies ranking at 15 is not going to happen. Will be a lot lower at season's end.

It's incredibly hard to get a good meter in the MVFC, but even with just 1 win against D1 competition we finished 53rd in the final Sagarin computer rankings for FCS teams last year. Put us in the Big Sky and we would probably spend the whole season ranked in the top 25 and maybe even have a shot at the playoffs. I bet Western and Southern Illinois take offense to being the two teams snubbed from the poll.

I'm guessing UNI voted for USD. They are one of two Valley schools responsible for voting in the coaches poll this season.

No, it's not really that far out of the realm of possibility that USD has a top 30 FCS football program. Take us out of the MVFC and the record would look much different, much better. Head to head we would compete and win in most other conferences. Alas, we are in the MVFC and that is the schedule we play so those are the teams we have to beat.
It reminds me of the old D2 days when an NSIC team would be highly ranked and those fans actually thought they could compete at an NCC level. I recall one year in the 90's we were a bottom half NCC team and Winona St came here for a game. Actually, the game was played in Yankton since the Dome roof was under construction. We laid the wood to them and beat them up pretty good. We went on to finish in the bottom half of the NCC and they went on to win out in the NSIC and made the playoffs. I believe UND then took them to the woodshed in the first round of the playoffs. Point is if USD was in the NSIC we would have rolled through that conference and been a playoff team, instead we suffered a losing season. The record was not a good indicator of how good the team was when comparing USD to other D2 teams nationwide. Alot of similarities to today in the MVFC. We have a good team and can beat many other FCS teams, we just are not good enough right now to compete for our conference title.

Good points Yote 53 and if you throw in our inordinate amount of injuries to our running backs and QB the last 2 years it just makes it that much more difficult to win in the Valley. Another example of the team's capabilities was last year we almost beat Montana (a playoff team) in Montana with our backup QB the week after Kevin broke his thumb at Oregon.

Agreed. It may be hard to see progress and feel like the Yotes are in the top half of FCS football but multiple polls do not lie. Take them for what they are worth. The team is better than what thier record shows FCS wise but yes, they have a lot of work to do to compete in the top of the MVFC.
