The Yotes averaged 6.4 yards per carry today which is good especially compared to UC Davis's 1.8 per carry. What a difference that is right there. USD outgained Davis 377-300 overall. Davis turned it over 4 times compared to 2 for the Yotes. The numbers definately favored the Yotes and this time the score reflected those stats.

Damn I just realized there is an off week between the Drake game and the Youngstown game on home coming. The Yotes need to take care of business against Drake unlike UND because they almost lost to them. I would like to see a 3 touchdown win. I think the Yotes are probably going to ram it right down their throat. This win at least keeps my interest for a few more weeks. The game against Youngstown is going to be a big one for the Coyotes. It will be a tough one but one at home. I think Youngstown is stronger than Davis so for the Yotes to take that one they are going to have to play a cleaner game overall to come out on top.

Way to hang in there Yotes!! Wacky 2nd half especially with all the penalties. Strange video feed with 3 or 4 different angles on a live play which made it hard to tell what was happening, open mic with the announcers often when there shouldn't have been. Embarrassing for a University of 35000 but at least it was free!
Special team play was much, much better as was overall O & D play. The O even had a few more wrinkles which was good to see. Drake will not be easy but Coyotes will be fired up!!

The first half of that third quarter had me also saying "here we go again", but we regained control and closed out the much needed victory 27-17. I was really irked by all the penalties and both of our turnovers were very unnecessary, but I have to say I liked everything else I saw from the team. We won the turnover battle again, the box score says we had five sacks, 6.5 ypc is incredible, and our special teams were immensely improved.
I can't say enough about how glad I am that the special teams improved. Bergner made two of his three field goals, punted for an average of 42 yards per punt, and we basically stopped all returns dead in their tracks. They only returned three of our punts for five yards and averaged just 13.5 yards on their kick returns. Very good performance here and I hope we can count on it the rest of the season.
How great was it to see Bouma again? Leading rusher and receiver for us tonight - 187 rushing yards and 48 receiving. This guy had a monster night and is absolutely our offensive MVP. On the flip side, our defense did a great job of shutting down the run. Love seeing the opponent held to 1.9 ypc.
That video feed was tough to tolerate. Very confusing switching of the camera angles that left me unsure of what was happening. Thankful I had something to watch, but glad that the remaining 9 games will be easier to watch. Time to look towards Drake and a winning record. Go Yotes!

You can't complain too much about the offense when you put up 200+ yds rushing and 27 points, but the number of 3 and outs, with so little time of possession, when you have a lead is something that has to be fixed.
Those first 3 possessions of the 2nd half were awful, negative yards, TO putting UCD in the red zone and a whopping 2:20 off the clock. Ouch

Overall the Yote D played lights out with sacks, ints, swarming to the ball and except for the 75 yd TD excellent coverage in the secondary. I didn't understand our D alignment on the long TD. We had 8 in the box at a time when Davis needed a big play and I thought "oh no" and sure enough it was an "oh no" moment.
But over all GREAT JOB by the D!! I like the 4-3 and it did creat more pressure on both the passer and the run so kudos to the coaches for this change!! This year's D shows a ton of great potential!!

This was a good benchmark game. It was a game that needed to be won to show signs of progress from last year. And it was won in fairly convincing fashion. Most of this has been covered already, but here are my observations.
OL and DL played great. Bouma gets the credit, and he should, but we all know his special day doesn't happen without room to roam. 4 sacks for the D, multiple tackles for loss. Big, big games from Van Ginkel, Lage, Wessel, Iddings, in no particular order.
The penalties were concerning to say the least. Part of it was on the officiating crew- they were not good (see the mystery inadvertent whistle/holding/whatever call on the Bouma long screen play), but most of it was on us. We're going to lose most games with that many penalties committed.
Huge improvement on special teams. I think Bergner kicked one kickoff out of bounds and had one missed FG (that's going to happen). The punting and punt coverage was phenomenal.
Clearly the game plan was to run, so Saeger had more of a 'game manager' role in this one. I only remember one poor decision by him- when he was going down and just tossed it up for the INT. He did miss one short throw to a wide open receiver that would've been a first down. Other than that though, solid game.
I still don't understand the WR screen. It gets 1-2 yards at most, and half the time it's a backwards pass, thus allowing for the fumble like we saw last night.
The biggest takeaway in my opinion was the resilience in the 3rd quarter. Over the last few years, once the wheels started to come off in the third quarter, we'd inevitably collapse entirely and lose the game- especially on the road. That did not happen last night.
Finally, as for the live stream, I was mostly happy with it. The video quality was great. But the camerawork was crazy. Way too many field level views and multiple views right in the middle of the play. Hopefully Coyote Corner will have a better angle on Bouma's big run as it was shown from the field level on the live stream. I think he put a pretty good move on a safety but you couldn't really tell from the angle that was shown.
Need to keep the foot on the pedal and blow Drake out of the dome to build more momentum and confidence heading into the conference schedule.
Great win, GO YOTES!!!, and yeah, where is the obc?

Let's not forget that some of those drives were stopped by questionable calls ie block in the back on the long screen pass and the offensive pass interference calls on the fist drive of the second half and the call a few drives later on Van Roekel. Good tteams have to overcome bad calls and we did but even if your Ohio State they are going to cause your offense To slow down its production

Congratulations on beating The Aggies. You deserved to win. The coaching and play of the Aggies was pathetic. The poor time management by the Aggies and lack of energy in the 4th quarter were criminal. Good luck on the rest of the season but don't use this game as a success marker. The Aggies, with the performance of Northern Colorado this weekend, are now officially the bottom ranked team in the Big Sky. I'm glad you were able to observe the pathetically poor officiating by Big Sky refs that every team in the conference complains about. At least the weather forecast was wrong and it was cooler and overcast although you got a good taste of forest fire smoke.
