Recruiting season starts soon! I know everyone wants this pick to be the right one but I don't know how much time we can afford.

Regardless of all of the blame directed as Wesley I'm sure he'll get Joe's support. To Wesley's credit he's more than put in his time at USD. Hell, he started his time here back in the John Austin era. If anyone on the current staff deserves an interview it's Wesley Beschorner. Personally, however, I'm not sure I can hand the keys over to someone without any HC experience. Beschorner just doesn't have any success as an OC and obviously no head coaching experience either. It should not be up to Joe Glenn who is the next coach. It should be up to Herbster and whoever is on the search committee. If Glenn is on that committee that is fine. USD needs to consider all options and not get tunnel vision. Amen. I'm not well versed in the pay range for FCS coaches. What is this going to take to do it right?

I wouldn't mind seeing an offense that isn't so focused on the run. I wouldn't mind a coach with some athletes on the field and to spread out that offense a bit. It would be nice to play to the advantage of the dome and throw it around some. I think a back like Frederick would be perfect for a scheme like that. I think after SDSU switches to field turf that everyone in the conference will be off of grass. There are two other domes aside from the Dakota Dome so it's a good conference to open it up a bit. That isn't to say that we shouldn't be able to run because in the playoffs in the cold weather having a good O line and being able to run it are important. Caruso would be a good coach for an explosive offense. USF is also very powerful on offense so Stugart would probably bring a good scheme with him as well. These are for sure going to be exciting times.

If it takes a good month to make the hire than that is fine. It just needs to be done right. If the Yotes get behind a bit in recruting than that will just have to be the way it is.

One thing's for sure... At 11:00 tomorrow there won't be many dry eyes at the press conference.

We're at a major fork in the road.

Paul Rhodes??? Seriously. He sucked at Iowa State Football people seem to like him. Most indications are that he is a class act. I just wanted YF's opinion. I know he is dialed in at ISU.

Whomever is hired as the next head coach I hope he focuses on defense. I think defense is primarily what got us the few wins we did get this year and what spells success in the Missouri Valley. I saw our offense this year as fairly mediocre, but our defense was above average. It just seems like teams that play indoors absolutely must have a good defense to succeed. UNI and NDS are examples.
Of course, the loss of Bouma had an outsized effect on our offense this year and I thought the coaches did the best they could under the circumstances.
I'll miss having Joe out there as the face of the Coyotes. Too bad they don't have a place for "coach emeritus" like they do in the academic world. All the best to you Joe. In my mind you are a winner.

The Coyotes scoring defense was actually below average in the MVFC. Haven't checked the stats for the yardage numbers as of yet.

Todd Haffner. William Penn HC This guy is a fantastic coach - he just about beat USD last year with an extremely under talented team. If you want a coach that believes in tough defense and an option offense - he would be worth a look. His roots are in the Pittsburg St Gorilla program - perennial power in D2.

So we want an offensive minded "spread" type coach, so we can out-athlete everyone we play. In the Valley. Got it.
Holy cripes. Winning in this conference is a simple formula, tough defense and a punishing run game.
