More info on Glen Caruso. I think everyone knows what kind of an offensive mind this guy has. 1997-2001: NDSU assistant 2002: NDSU OC 2003: Wisc-Eau Claire OL 2004-2005: Do Coyote fans need to be reminded what this was like St. Thomas Head Coach 2008: 7-3 2009: 11-2, lost in D3 quarterfinal 2010: 12-1, lost in D3 quarterfinal 2011: 13-1, lost in D3 semi-finals 2012: 14-1, lost in D3 championship game 2013: 8-2 2014: 8-3, lost in D3 first round 2015: 8-0 at last report, still in D3 playoffs For his standards he actually slumped a bit in 13 and 14 but has it in full gear again this season. His record is also impressive but quite honestly are any of the candidates as dominant as Deboer was as head coach. Full disclosure: I'm a Saint John's grad (undergrad) and a lifelong Johnnie Football fan. So, saying that I have hated Caruso in his capacity as the St. Thomas head coach is a tremendous understatement. There are things about his personality that irk me (which I will explain if asked), but I'll say one thing: he's an exceptional football coach. I'm not trying to sell him to USD because I want him to stop having the Tommies win football games. It's quite the opposite, actually, he has made the Johnnie-Tommie rivalry better by making the game not be a joke (SJU won 12 in a row from 1998-2009). However, if you want to win football games, he's a guy that is going to help--A BUNCH.

I never said he wasn't a solid candidate but he may not be the savior that some think he is. I just think there are better candidates. All you have ever talked about is how you want a candidate that has unquestionable success to be the next head coach. DeBoer is highly questionable, did well at USF, but what has he done since he left that makes him a splash hire? Caruso is great, but has only been a head coach at the D3 level, he has been dominant, but it would be a huge leap in competition in terms of the talent he is facing and the coaches he is facing in MVFC. Neilson is a proven commodity. He won a NC at UMD, he took a MVFC doormat to the 2nd round of the playoffs in his 3rd year at WIU. He has done nothing but make whatever program he takes over better. How can you say that he is a lower level candidate compared to 2 less proven coaches. All the dude does is win at a high level. I don't care how old the guy is, if USD could swipe him from WIU, that would be a major coup in the valley. Reigning MVFC coach of the year, going to another conference school whom he just destroyed a couple months earlier, would be the story of the off-season in the Valley. I am not knocking either of the candidates that you have mentioned, but the logic that you used to downgrade Neilson compared to DeBoer and Caruso is mind-boggling. So his defense wasn't great statistically, who cares? You know what statistic matters most, wins and losses, you said it all year. Dude went to the 2nd round of the playoffs. The 2nd round, and lost to a likely final-4 team in ISUr. EMU sucked when DeBoer got there, guess what, they still suck. You know who doesn't suck? WIU, you know why? Bob Neilson. I rest my case Go Yotes! My gosh Deboer took his team to 4 straight national title games winning 3 of them. What else does this guy need to do and he is still in his early 40's. He has proven to be a better head coach than a coordinator and isn't it a head coach we are hiring. The cool thing about Deboer is that he has amazing success as a head coach and also has FCS and FBS experience so it would appear he has alot of the criteria that USD would be looking for. If Nielson ends up being the guy I will be happy with that. I am just picking apart the resume's a bit as we should want USD to do as well. Of course my #1 choice is Mike Zimmer and since he took a pretty bad loss this week he will probably be available in a week or two. LOL

OMG 50% of Coyote fans have already eliminated him because he might have a hint or arrogance in him or whatever other personality trait Coyote fans don't like. Maybe his arrogance is why his offense destroyed people and probably why his current program is doing so well. Nice guys often finish last or at best case senario below average.

I would love it if Caruso was a candidate, but I don't think that he is. Knowing Caruso, he is at his dream job right now with unlimited resources at the D3 level in a hotbed for recruiting D3 talent. I honestly don't think he is interested one iota in coming back to USD to be the HC. I could be wrong but thats my opinion. We have not heard anything either confirming or denying that he is candidate for the job.
What we do know with relative certainty is that 3 guys have been identified as candidates. I know that Wesley got an interview, so he is a candidate, all be it he has very little chance of being the guy this time around. Debar has been tabbed as an interviewee and so has Bob Neilson. Out of those 2 guys, we have a guy that his proven his ability at the FCS level in the MVFC. DeBoer is unknown at this level as a HC. He was OK as an FCS OC.
Flash back to the good ole' days at the Char-bar. You can either rolll the dice and wait until close to try and get the hottest chick in the bar (Deboer) who might not even put out, or go home now with the girl that might not be quite as sexy, but likes to drink and watch sports, and is known to be a good lay (Neilson). I know who I would pick every time. Sorry if that got weird, but I take the sure thing if you know what I mean.

ah, the char bar. Love the reference. We just need to hope we don't go too far and wake up in three years next to the ugly friend of the hot chick.

I doubt he would leave. There would have to be a substantial salary number thrown at him + a big promise of institutional support for the Coyote program going forward--(i.e., facilities, support staff, etc.) Caruso is going to want some nice toys to hang in front of prospective recruits' eyes.

I will just say this, after you bring this girl home, you have to turn on the camera and stream it to everybody, if you know what I mean.

coyotefart has brought his A-game tonight boys. Look out I would have to say that this is getting into the area of personally attacking. Keep it clean bud. Too funny. coyotefan, after our exchange in the Minnesota men's basketball thread a friend sent me a text saying he hadn't been to the board in a while, but wanted to drop by after the win. He used the term coyotefart in his message and my phone remembered it putting coyotefart ahead of coyotefan in auto-spell. I didn't even notice it. You're still number one in my heart, bud.

This is a no-brainer if there ever was one. If USD can come to terms with Nielsen and he wants the job he should get the position. The guy checks off every box on the wish list, and my personal requirement of knowing, understanding, and being a proven commodity inside this conference.
