I have been banned from the SDSU Board... Not the worst thing that could have happened to you. I gave up on those morons a long time ago. Fun to stop by and read the threads once in a while, but trying to have a conversation with them has been scientifically proven to kill brain cells.

I have been banned from the SDSU Board... Not the worst thing that could have happened to you. I gave up on those morons a long time ago. Fun to stop by and read the threads once in a while, but trying to have a conversation with them has been scientifically proven to kill brain cells. There was a misinterpretation that I called out JackJD, which was totally not my intention whatsoever. I will gladly apologize publicly if that was the perception. There was a guy that said SDSU needed to add a business school to SDSU for the benefit of athletics - a ridiculous notion. Not ridiculous that they should add a business school for the benefit of academics, but ridiculous that the intent would be to help athletics. I said their priorities were off. Based on that comment - justified, IMO. I followed up, after getting called out by nidaros and others, by asking what they would think if USD added pharmacy (and incorporated it into the medical school, as it should be) or engineering. How would they feel? Did I stir it up a little by calling them the State College? Yes. I thought it was playful, but I understand that it was unnecessary to facilitate the conversation. I did muck up their recruiting thread, but I didn't feel comfortable starting a new thread on their board as a visitor. Moving on.

From the Argus article: “I don’t know yet. We like to see the marketplace and how this works out. Certainly things are happening on the national level that we want to pay attention to in regards to cost of attendance, but we also want to be fiscally responsible and make sure we have those dollars in place. We’ll continue to address it and move forward as we can identify funding and as it makes sense. We’re going to be strategic about it.”
Translation: "We'll do it for our basketball players but our football players and other student-athletes aren't as important to the bottom line of our athletic department. I guess if we are going head-to-head for a recruit that we really covet we will offer it, but otherwise, no, we won't offer it unless we have to."
That right there is the definition of strategic. Any future recruit that gets on offer from SDSU should contact USD, NDSU, UND, and UNI to try to start a bidding war. Even if SDSU is your preferred school make them match the other offers and get FCOA out of them.

Offering some but not others will backfire. How pissed are you if you are not valued as good enough to get FCOA from coach nutmeg or coach barefoot?
potential recruit- I need cost of attendance like you offered Joe Blow. Coach nutmeg- nope I can only offer it to 10 kids this year because we build a new indoor field machine shed next to our stadium. potential recruit-OK I'm going somewhere else.

Way to go Argus Leader for writing a story the message boards have been hashing over for quite some time now. Also... they are to be commended for making it sound like the Bunnies are getting ahead of this issue and being responsible when they are really playing catch-up and covering their a$$es (pun intended) with new recruits.
