In no way do I buy the hunting excuse. Hunt before the game or hunt on Sunday. It doesn't have to be done during the game itself. The birds will be there all autumn long. The Coyotes are only available between 2-5 PM on Saturday's. Coming from a guy that I remember at one point saying he is just flat out choosing to stay home on Saturdays. Now that the team is winning it's suddenly unacceptable to have another commitment on a Saturday afternoon? Glass houses CF.... and you are absolutely correct. It was my opinion that the administration did not have a true commitment to putting together a competitive program. If the admin doesn't care about winning, why should anyone care about coming. If I am going to put my time and effort into coming to show support I think we are owed an equal commitment by the program. I think that commitment is now being made and I am recognizing that commitment. It's not like it's a requirement to win the conference title every year. I just want a team that has a chance to contend for a conference title. I am sorry but 6-26 is not considered a contender and the pile of losing years was getting way too high.

I would be all for selling a portion of the student section to the general public if demand warranted it. This team could ride a 6 game winning streak to the NDSU game, stomp the Bison, and there would probably be 100 students remaining in the 4th. There are passionate students out there but they are hard to come by.
After observing this for some time now I remain baffled as to why one would show up for the first half of a game then leave. Just drink in the parking lot until halftime and then go in if you're looking to party and see one half of a football game.

It's a little hard to hunt before or after when it takes over 2 hrs for me to get to the game. There are only so many hours in a day; Besides we go from 10am to sunset. These hunts are a family tradition that I have been doing for 20 years and set up way in advance. It is the only time I get to see certain friends and family. If that makes me a bad fan then so be it.

If the students aren't going to come, sell some of the east seats to other fans.

That might be a good idea... limiting the students to a certain number of seats... I know free admission is given to student through their student fees, but maybe they need to get a ticket in advance of the game...? If the students start thinking that this is exclusive to a certain number, then they may want to start participating... It would also let the ticket people know how many seats they can sell on game day at a discounted price for general admission...

Curious what everyone thinks about a 6:00 or 7:00 kickoff for home games? Better or worse attendance? Participation?

It would make it harder for those in Sioux Falls to make it, especially if they are bringing kids who would be up too late.
I'm opposed because the additional 4 hours of tailgating would kill me.

Curious what everyone thinks about a 6:00 or 7:00 kickoff for home games? Better or worse attendance? Participation? That makes for a long day... IMO, I think it would hurt attendance. On a typical game day now, with a 2pm start, we leave home at 8-8:30am and don't get home until after 6:30.

I don't see either of those suggestions happening. USD bends over backwards for the students. It's President Abbott's belief, IMO, that it is the student's university, their school. Look at the accommodations they have made for students in the past, giving them a section on the east side for big games (students still left at halftime, btw), buying tickets for students for the WNIT games (student access was not free for those, I believe). No way they reduce access to the games for the students, regardless of the support, or lack thereof, the student body gives.

2PM kickoffs are perfect. I used to like the night games but now see the benefits of afternoon games. The only change I would suggest is 3 or 3:30PM kickoffs for D-Days. Trying to cram the parade in the morning and having time to tailgate is not possible. They could move the parade to Friday night like many, many universities do for their homecoming celebrations but I don't see that ever happening at USD. Too much of a family oriented event.

Just saw this stat: USD outscoring opponents 31-0 in points off turnovers the past three games. Continue to eliminate points off turnovers and I like our shot.

I believe students already get their tickets in advance but they're still allowed in without a ticket if the student section isn't sold out

I heard that UPD was going through the student tailgate this last weekend to curb underage drinking, so many students decided to just leave, instead. Is there a balance we must find to create a safe environment, but also in sustaining an event which will entice students to "want" to go? Even if these events are not D-Days/Rivalry games?

There was hardly any students there from start to finish. UPD had no bearing on that.

I agree that the 2PM start time is perfect. It allows for everyone to still have a lot of their Saturday left when the game is over.
