The women's team is better than last year and can go undefeated again this year but more importantly can make it back to the NCAA tourney and make noise.

I know the team is loaded with talent, but the losses of Liveringhouse, Trimboli, and Bradley aren't minor losses. An undefeated season shouldn't be the expectation. You sound like a state fan with those aspirations

My expectation is for a top-two finish. Anything less than that would be a disappointment, and unexpected IMO. Running the table in-conference is statistically unlikely, but certainly possible.
The Jacks' team is very strong, skilled and experienced this year, if a little smaller then they are used to in the post (still big). I agree with them being favored in the pre-season polls. They are bigger overall, and we are deeper overall. Just like last year. Our two teams should be pretty evenly matched, and any combination of W/L in our potentially 3 meetings would not surprise me. We have never swept the Jacks in three Summit games in a season, but I wouldn't consider doing that an upset. A breakthrough, yes. But not an upset.

All that matters is how we play in the tournament. That has been proven time and again by the bunnies. Winning the conference allows you to hang another banner, but doesn't mean squat when the tournament starts.

A few posters on the bunny board have said they expect their men and women to go undefeated in conference play

I do agree with Yotebewithyou. Losing those 3 is going to hurt us more than people think. Trimboli the most.

kwsn.com/podcasts/sports-talk-with-kwsn/5093/dawn-plitzuweit-on-usd-hosting-no-22-iowa-state/A podcast of a KWSN interview of Dawn prior to the ISU game. Two things in this interview were very interesting to me: 3:20 - I'm curious how you got them (ISU) to come to Vermillion? You certainly don't see it on the men's side...."... From some dilligent work from our assistant coaches that were in charge of scheduling.... Since we've come here, we've really tried to stay regional as much as possible. I think that's really important for our team, our program." "In (WBB) it's impressive that there are as many teams in our region that are performing at a high level. It's amazing at the AAU-level. Teams that are winning championships and national championships, they're coming out of our region. So our region is really solid, and we want to play against as many teams as we can here, to keep our fans engaged, and to play against some good teams." On the men's side, these power-5 programs don't see any upside in playing road games against non-power-5 teams... and yet, (on the women's side) Notre Dame agreed to come to Brookings, ISU to Vermillion, ... You probably help the SOS, because SDSU and you are both the two best teams in that league, but why are they more open to that idea?"I don't know precisely. I don't know if it's because in the men's game the guarantees are so big that a lot of teams can buy their opponents to come in? There are guarantees on the women's side, but they're not as enticing as on the men's side....." "The top teams in women's basketball understand that they need to be tested. Some of them are willing to go on the road... but it also has to make sense for them.... You have to be a team in an RPI range that it benefits them to come on the road and play you, win or lose. (for example) We went on the road and played a very good Montana team, came away with a very good win, ... and yet we dropped in RPI. That's what those (power 5) teams really don't want to happen. so if you have an RPI of 150 to 250, they don't want to come play you, because even if they beat you it doesn't help them in SOS...."

Also this:
7:30 - "... What has (Lamb) done to crack your starting lineup?
"Last year she played with a lot of composure. She made a lot of good things happen, handling the basketball, moving the ball for us, made big shots, defended well. She's a very calming presence on the court.... She's a winner."
"It's funny, when she hit the winning shot to beat Michigan State in the WNIT last year, I had to remind myself, she's from Onida, SD. A year ago, she was playing for back-to-back state championships, and won them. The competitive edge she has is something that really separates her."
" I've had disagreements with colleagues that say:-- 'you have to recruit only players who play on the Nike national circuit. They have to be playing against the best of the best' -- While there is a lot of benefit to that, there are also some really tough, good kids in our region who know how to play basketball."

Great interview; thanks for posting.
As we know, there was a little spelling error in the story above: Onida is a great little sports town in central South Dakota. Oneida, on the other hand, I think makes silverware.

Great interview; thanks for posting. As we know, there was a little spelling error in the story above: Onida is a great little sports town in central South Dakota. Oneida, on the other hand, I think makes silverware. Thanks for catching that! I fixed it. Also, apparently the town was named after the hometown of some of the settlers - Oneida, New York. The town in New York, and county, and lake, were named after the Oneida Tribe. So somewhere along the line, somebody misspelled it for the South Dakota town, and it stuck. Probably the railroad. There are many examples of naming errors by the railroads (Menno and Freeman, for example). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onida,_South_Dakota en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oneida_peopleLong story short; I blame the railroad for my error...

Thanks for the explanation. Wonder what would have happened if those early settlers had come from Long Island, NY, home of the Poospatuck Indian tribe.
