I think there is a way, but I couldn't get it to embed either.

Awesome story!" Wow", pretty much sums it up. Thanks for sharing that. I remember a earlier discussion on the quality of female basketball in this state which really takes a back seat to no one, anywhere, population be damned. I wonder why that is?

It doesn't hurt to have Alan Miller's and Jeff Lamb's and Keith Larson's and Dan Duffy's daughters playing at the moment. Kind of a convenient convergence of genetics coming together at the same time.
But it comes down to the kids first and foremost putting the time in and working on shaping those talents and then I think you've got to give a lot of credit to the state's coaches at a lot of levels for helping in the development of that talent.

Landing page for ESPN's NCAAW section (click to enlarge): That's some good representation. USD remains #1 in mid-major poll, our game this weekend is a must-see, story on the right about USD being in the top 25.

Says it was written February 18th but it's from last week...

That's all very true, but I think that the high level of play has been here for a long time and it's not just the genetics thing at work. There is a lot of depth, a lot of kids playing and doing well on out of state teams and the college teams in South Dakota, on all levels from Division 1 down to NAIA, enjoying a lot of success on the national scene. I remember the early days in the mid to late 70s and early 80s and we could be having this same discussion about the female players coming out of South Dakota high schools.

Completely agree. Women’s hoops holds a special place in South Dakota. From the Van Goors to the Flynns to the Big Crows to the Hammons and Mahoneys and Koupals there is no doubt that it holds more of this state’s attention than in many others and that plays a huge part in the current success of all South Dakota college teams.
But it doesn’t hurt at all that both of the state’s D-I teams have a current All-American-type player who will go down as one of their school’s all-time greats whose fathers were SD schoolboy legends and played collegiately together in South Dakota. If Alan Miller and Dan Duffy had played in a different era where some coach from California or Ohio had drawn them away I don’t think it would be crazy to think that today’s SDSU and USD teams might look a bit different (and not quite as good).

This is news worthy...!
From the article: "All hail these five mid-majors: Gonzaga, Drake, South Dakota State, South Dakota and Central Michigan are making the field. They already have put together NCAA tournament-worthy seasons.
That also means these are the teams for which those on the bubble need to root for during conference tournament play. For instance, if South Dakota or South Dakota State doesn't win the Summit League tournament, then three teams from that conference will be going to the NCAA tournament and another at-large spot is gone, because both the Coyotes and Jackrabbits have a spot should they not get the automatic bid."
