Looking at some small guards... Guessing they play bigger than their size...? Yeah, just like C. Kunzer in the 2017 class. Heck, look at Emily Clemens from WIU. Seems like at PG coaches are willing to sacrifice size for skill and quickness. Although I'm not totally convinced that Coach P typically uses a true PG in her motion offense. Remember we saw a lot of perimeter shooting from our bigs last year, and dribble penetration from the guards. Seems like she doesn't mind mixing up big/small/hybrid players and their roles. I guess we have to assume that there is a strong reason to take a smaller player. USD has earned some clout on the recruiting trail, I would think. We aren't a power-five school, but we shouldn't have to "settle" for players we aren't excited about, either.

Yup. Same one. She'll be a two-for-one scholarship athlete for us! j/k - here's a link. Looks like her dad is the "Lady 'Stormers" coach www.barnstormersbasketball.com/page/show/2063666-10th-grade-girls-2016-

I completely trust Coach P., but doesn't it feel like the recruits are undersized - especially if the plan is to win post season games against P5 teams?

I am sure if the team is indeed undersized there is a strategy as to why. She likes interchangeable parts it would seem. She likes posts that can go out and shoot and perhaps guards that can post it up and everything in between. From what I recall it seemed like initially when she was hired that she would like to go uptempo. I think with the lack of depth that didn't happen in her first year. If she wants to go for a bunch of players between 5'6" and 6'0" that can all get out and run and can all shoot it then I am OK with that. I think size is probably over rated a bit in a league like the Summit. I would take the athleticism and just pure basketball skill before I would take just purely size.

Anyone remember the Nolan Richardson Arkansas teams with Sidney Moncrief and company? That was fun basketball to watch.

I think Moncrief played for Eddie Sutton. Richardson followed him but won a national title when they beat Duke I think, but both coaches had dynamic and fun teams to watch play

I keep getting things confused in my old age. One thing I do remember correctly though was a TV analyst before one of those Arkansas games saying how much trouble the Razorbacks would have matching up with whoever it was they were playing because of their lack of height. I think Moncreif, Brewer, Delph and company all ran about 6'4. At halftime all they could say how the opponent was struggling matching up because of how quick Arkansas was. All this scree is just a roundabout way of saying that maybe Dawn favors speed and quickness over height. That can be very effective and fun to watch. Of course it'd be nice to get both in one player.

I think that with women's basketball you have to look at things a little differently than with the men with regard to height. Average height as well as the supply of girls above a certain height, as well as the small number of girls that are both athletically gifted and tall. Top-flight WBB players from power-5 teams are not always 5'11" and above. The guards, at least.
Kelsey Plum, University of Washington, All-american and 1st pick in the 2017 WNBA draft: 5'-8" Rachel Banham, University of Minnesota, broke many scoring records there, #4 pick WNBA 2016: 5'-9"
Those are just two off the top of my head.
Granted, you usually don't see a whole team of shorter guards, even in the Summit, but you can't afford to overlook a skilled player like Emily Clemens, either. (5'-4")
