I think what he is saying is that is not Nielson's style and he will not change from the up tempo all the time offense. Nielson made his bed with his offense (which I like BTW) and like it or not the Coyotes are who they are. They are not built to run the ball up the middle and if they try too often they are going to run into problems against good teams. The Coyotes run game can be Streveler scrambling and the short passing game. If works just as well. The Coyotes have to build their defense as a compliment to their offense and people can argue what exactly that means. To me it means running an aggressive high risk high reward scheme that limits their time on the field. For someone else it may mean something else but regardless of the opinion they have to compliment one another for the Coyotes to have success. My opinion is still out on this debate. I've seen a lot of change in bad programs become successful programs over the years. I've lived thru the horrible years of the 70/80 Packers. Holmgren came into town and we didn't have a running game. He followed the scheme of the West Coast O that uses short passes as a substitute of the running game. It works. You can run out the clock using short passes in lieu of a running game. I've seen WI in the 70/80 and they were horrible. Alverez came in and it is smash mouth football...run the ball right up the middle and we'll tell you we're doing it...but stop us! Very successful too! I've seen our latest HS coach come in and run a 4 wide scheme every play...and they went to the last 4 state championships...winning 2! It would have been 3 if not for a freak white-out snow storm in the 4th quarter where the WR could not see the ball.
My gut tells me the smash mouth and a great D is the way to win. However, is that the patriots style? No. I'm old school that you have to have that running game and a great defense...but if you boil that down...to have a great running game you have to have a great O Line. To have a great Defense...you have to have a great D line...there lies the key! Although I haven't a conclusion yet...I can tell you the biggest common denominator is they all win in the trenches. How did Nielson recruit this year???

Yotes 7.5 point underdogs and an over/under of 67 according to 5dimes. It was all the way down to 4.5, but a bunch of money must have gone to the other side.

3 yards and a cloud of dust is something that has worked very well for many teams such as NDSU but it is not the only way either. It just so happens to be (assuming Nielson becomes a somewhat successful coach) that the type of team that has won at USD since the 80's is one that opens up the passing game. I don't think the Coyotes should try to win a smash mouth style of football at this time. First of all the dome is the home field advantage and one the is conducive to speed and passing the football. That doesn't mean a team has to pass but the conditions are very good for it. I also think recruiting has to do with it as well. Many players like to play in a wide open offense so that factor alone doesn't hurt in getting in talent. As far as the recruiting is concerned the Coyotes with their recent lack of success is not going to win a ton of battles for kids in the upper mid west that tend to excel in size and power such as what NDSU does. That recruiting wins won't come until the program proves that they are a proven winner. USD is going to get out recruited in that type of one on one battle when it comes to the MVFC programs. That is why I like it when the Coyotes go out to the Florida's and Texas's of the world and get naturally talented athletes the would more likely excel at speed and agility. Instead of going through them there is nothing wrong with going around them and over them. Just look at the stock pile of receivers that the Yotes already have. Honestly the biggest disadvantage to this is those games in November and hopefully someday December are generally a bit tougher on the finesse oriented passing teams.

Actually if you look at Nielson's 2 recruiting classes they actually beat out NDSU, SDSU and others in the Missouri Valley Conference to win the recruit. They also beat out FBS schools as well. Below are just a few I could find.
Peter Klug- KU Offer, NDSU offer, UNI Offer, SDSU offer Mark Collins Jr.- SDSU offer, UNI offer, SIU offer, UND offer, Missouri State offer, Illinois State offer Nick Kramer- UNI offer Jacob Mathew - SDSU offer, Illinois State offer, NDSU offer, Ohio offer Kody Case - UND offer Reggie Crawford- Wyoming offer,Western Illinois offer, Missouri state offer, University of Illinois offer, Ball state offer Kolade Amusan - Eastern Michigan offer Tyler Ciurej - Colorado state offer, Liberty offer, New Mexico offer, SDSU offer Nathan Schultz- Illinois State offer, UND offer, SDSU offer, Stephen F. Austin offer, Western Illinois offer Dakarai Allen- South Alabama offer Ben Klett - Western Michigan offer

Bleacher Report picked every FBS game this week. Here's the piece on the BG match-up. South Dakota (1-0) at Bowling Green (0-1), 6 p.m. ET Should we expect a rapid turnaround from Bowling Green? The offense showed few signs of life while Michigan State sputtered—and even fumbled twice in the first half. On the opposite side, South Dakota blitzed Drake for 77 points to begin the campaign. This matchup will show where the Falcons are as a team, and they might not be thrilled with the answer. Prediction: South Dakota 24, Bowling Green 20 bleacherreport.com/articles/2730544-college-football-picks-week-2-predictions-for-every-game

My point is that the game is won on the offensive and defensive lines ...and you don't have to have road graders to have good lines. The Packers use a zone blocking scheme and rely on versatility rather than size and they had the best pass blocking line in the nfl last year. It's how the gel and work together and from what i hear, this team has gelled.

Believe Austin Wallace had offers from Western and Illinois state as well. We are certainly starting to win a lot more recruiting battles than we ever did in the Glenn era.

If your theory is correct and the game is won on the lines then the Coyotes could be in trouble because I think most would agree that the lines are probably considered one of the bigger question marks on the team. I do think the Coyote skilled players can make up somewhat for the O-line but I think if the D-line struggles that could lead to not such great things as the season goes on.

Unnecessary. He had a valid point that some offers may have been more full than others, no need to attack WIU on the state's budget issues.

I'm entitled to my opinion and was also making a point. They attack us plenty on their board with no Coyote presence at all. According to them we're "delusional". I don't like them denigrating our coaches.
