I think it will be close. I hate making score predictions, because I think they are pointless. I will say this - I am very confident that we can win this game, but I do not believe it will be easy. I am not going to thumb my nose at the talent that BG will put on the field. BG is a large school located in a VERY fertile recruiting ground, however. I don't have a great feel for the coaching talent they have, but based on the resume of the HC, I am not impressed at all. I know they will have sound athletes, regardless of the head coach. I expect both scores to be in the high 20s to low 30s. BG's offense was terrible last week and their defense held up OK considering the competition. Their DL looks very similar to ours in terms of size. I'd like to hope that will translate into running lanes and time for Strev to throw. To me this game is comparable to playing an SDSU or an NDSU. We are going to need to play clean, explosive football to win. We cannot give up turnovers for points; we cannot break contain and give up a special teams score; and we cannot give up explosive plays (20 yards of more) on defense. If we can do that, I think we win. I have not doubt we will score points. To me, this all comes down to sound defense and mistake free special teams. I agree that the Coyotes can win the game, but do you think they will win? When it comes to the defense I really only have one very basic formula. Get off the field as quickly as possible because if not Bowling Green will probably take over in the 2nd half. Will it come down to which secondary out plays the other? With how the teams like to play on offense I would not at all be surprised. Yes, I tend to think they will win, but I will fully acknowledge that I am hedging. Predicting how an FBS vs. FCS match up will turn out is dangerous business. I get your philosophy on defense, but I don't know if that is what we do presently. Last year led me to believe that we are more of a keep them in front of you, don't give up big plays, let them make mistakes and tighten up near the end zone type of defense. I am no expert on scheme, however, so I could very easily be wrong.

If the coyotes play great they will win 56-17. On the sarcastic side if they play good to Midland they will win 38-31. If they play well below their potential they will lose 41-38. No other result worse then a 3 point loss is possible even if bowling green plays great. :-)

I still don't feel we are there yet up front. I think we drop this one 35-24. I hope I'm wrong. Change your profile pic please, it is throwing me off.

Chris Streveler has plenty of reasons to be "excited" for his senior season. Many of them play wide receiver. I caught up with him at the team hotel Friday to get his thoughts on that and Bowling Green. Here's what he had to say:

Someone check to see if he has any eligibility left?

I did not come very close with my prediction on Drake thinking that their lines would help them keep it close for awhile. Was really pretty sure that the Yotes would pull away handily in the second half though. Real happy with the unbelievable blow out for sure. Coyotes could have put up 100.
I have a real good gut feel that The Good Guys keep it close and put up enough points late to take it about 38 35 or so.
Fight South Dakota !!

I don't know if anyone else cares about lines, they really just show the perception of the gambling population, but Bowling Green is now only favored by 3. The equally meaningless ESPN FPI gives us a 46.5% chance to win. I never thought I'd see the day where we matched up so favorably with a FBS school, even a 4-win MAC team. They would have us equally matched at a neutral site. That's awesome. This would barely be considered an upset - though a win would be massive.
I've had my kool-aid. We are going to take a W to go with that paycheck today. I'm guessing we'll be around 16 in Monday's polls.

Just got done with my game day routine. Nice 5 min warm up jog, and a 30 min upper body pump fest. This allows me to clear the mind and think about the game later this afternoon. Our offense should hang with these guys and keep us in the game. Let's see how good our secondary is today against some FBS wide receivers.

One of the things that makes football fun and exciting are unexpected wins by teams that on "paper" shouldn't necessarily be able to compete or win. Football recruiting is often a very uneven business. Yes, there are those absolute studs that you can't miss that get heavily recruited and rightfully so. There are also MANY truly special athletes that get overlooked for a variety of reasons. Maybe they don't have a mind blowing 40 time, but they are fierce competitors and possess great heart. Maybe they aren't 6'5" 290 looking like they were just cast in a Hercules movie, but they're tough as nails and don't know the meaning of quit.
I also know of many highly recruited "multiple" star athletes that I've seen give up, were selfish and play the game for themselves and not for the good of the team, and get more credit than they should due to the talent around them.
It's this imperfect process that makes the game exciting. It's the underdog rising up and taking down the supposedly "superior" opponent. It's a bunch of guys that work hard, come together as a tight group, that come together and do something special.
I really like this Yotes team and like their chances today! This is a team worthy of respect and being respected in football as a tough and worthy opponent is a meaningful accomplishment. GO YOTES!!!
