I wouldn’t get too caught up on 200+ rankings which are misleading... Nicholls State beat those same 3 subpar teams 23-17, 20-29, 38-31, but also lost close games to Texas A&M 24-14 and Georgia 24-26... I disagree, do feel they are elite(top10 team), if not I’d expect the Yotes to be heavy favorites. I’d hate to think the Yotes couldn’t run past an average team... For most of the season USD was ranked in the top10 because there is real talent on this squad and have enough to knock them off. This game will be settled by the Os, both teams are going to score...

Howdy from Texas. I am looking forward to see the coyotes come to Texas and have a great game with no injuries. I just hope our Bearkats come out on top. Been reading y’all’s board for a few days now and can see we are pretty even. If y’all want to come join us on our board you are more than welcome. katfans.com

I agree completely with that comment and The Bear Cats are absolutely elite in the FCS. There are not many teams in the country that have the credentials of Sam Houston State. When they lose it is usually to the elite teams. Their accomplishments are easily greater than what SDSU has done since the Jacks have been playoff eligible and people can argue all they want about NDSU always getting in the way but it is what it is. Sam Houston is very good at home and it is going to be more than a tall task for the Coyotes to pick up the win. People on here are obviously biased towards the Yotes but this team is not the same team that they were at the beginning of the year. The Coyotes are going to have to play a near flawless game to win. They can't have killer penalties and those recent interceptions by Streveler cannot happen on Saturday. For the Coyotes to win they are going to have to play similar to how they played against Western Illinois in the first half in September. This game will be slightly harder to win than the games at Illinois State at WIU and at UNI. Sam Houston and Nichols are at a completely different level IMO. IMO the Coyotes needed some breaks and 4 turnovers to beat Nichols. They can't rely on that again. I think if this game were at the dome it would be a pick em but since it is in Texas I think Sam Houston is the easy pick and the AGS board agrees in big numbers that the Bear Cats will win. Call it a cesspool or whatever but that board has some knowledgeable fans that know their stuff. If you really want an idea of who will win when it involves the Coyotes it's better to ask a neutral fan what they think rather than a Coyote fan. IMO the Coyotes need to play a high risk reward type of defense more than I have ever thought before. If they try to play straight up they will bend and often break and will end up tiring out by the end. Sam Houston is too good for the way the Coyotes D has been playing for them to play straight up. Blitz, Blitz, Blitz and play tight coverage trying to force turnovers. Ball possession is the most important thing. If the Coyotes have some 4th and shorts around mid field I am all for going for it. A punt and the Bear Cats are probably around mid field in 2 or 3 plays anyway. This is an attitude game. The Coyotes need to go down their and throw their hay makers and see what happens. I don't want them to play a not to lose game because that is exactly what will happen if they get too conservative. If the Coyotes come out swinging and miss and end up losing so be it at least they tried but ya can't keep up with a powerful team if you don't take some home run cuts yourself both on O and on D.

I have a better vibe going in to this game than the Nicholls game. SHSU is a better team than Nicholls, but this is a better (more normal?) situation. And a better match-up.
Yotes 45 Sam 43

Taking the over feels like a sucker bet, but how do you take the under?

Line is now SHSU favored by 2.5 Over/Under 80.5 Now they are coming in line with my earlier prognostication. I think their over/under is a little high. I expect Defense to keep it closer to 60. I’m guessing under 68. I am surprised the spread hasn’t widened in favor of SHSU. It’s so close it’s almost down to the intangibles

aldewitt,
I think when figuring out your stats and therefor making your projections I would simply throw out the home games that the Coyotes have played. They are putting up big numbers on offense and much better numbers on defense at home. They have also had their easier games at home as well. I think the Coyotes road performances are a better indication of what we can expect in this game. Plus the road games have been tougher and more of an indication of what we can expect against a team like Sam Houston in their backyard. The Yotes defense really feasted on Indiana State, UND and a weakened SIU with their back up QB.

Elliot T. Bowers Stadium Sam Houston State University Huntsville, TX 12,593 Capacity 1985 - built 1994 - record attendance 16,148 (maybe using the grass sloped areas?) 2007 - switched to artificial turf 2012 - new orange chairbacks installed 2013 - New video board (Daktronics), elevator, press box and suites added 2016 - Replaced turf with 3D Astroturf (same as Nicholls State) The Bearkats (yes spelled that way) are 85-41-1 in this stadium I like the way that it is in a natural bowl. Reminds me of the old Colorado State U stadium. That is an old photo , but gives an idea. A new jumbo video board with sound system and new turf were installed last season. Its a decent place to watch a game however i wish they would take out the track. Hope some Coyote fans can make the trip down. Weather will be near perfect this weekend with plenty of sunshine, high in Mid 70's with a cool breeze. Perfect football weather!!

kats89 - what is the deal with the turf that goes onto the track? Do they do something in that endzone or the area behind it? I really like the layout of the stadium/bowl. Looks sharp.

Where do they put the tent for the visitors to dress in?
