From KELO: So the story is that he knew he was staying yesterday, but didn't leak it. So all the reports about him being on campus was bunk. I somehow doubt that there was zero dialog, however. LOL! Well played Jay & Coach!

Not all of the details are correct here. I did talk to Bob yesterday, but all he said was that it was all rumor and that there was no truth to it. He never told me he was staying. He just asked me not to add to the rumors. Bob and other sources told me then and continue to say now that there was no contact. I’m not in the business of convincing anyone of anything. I report what I believe to be credible information. from sources I trust. Everyone is free to dissect that information and believe whatever they choose.

I will remain anxious until we know Nielson has his extension signed, or Kent State announces someone else. I already saw this play out once when Bob left WIU. I saw it again this week with Willie Taggart leaving Oregon for Florida State. Coaches will dispel rumors and say they are staying while remaining in negotiations with the other school.
Also, the radio silence from the assistants is deafening. Even one "got a homegrown Yote!" tweet and I might rest easy.

That makes complete sense, thanks for the correction! Honestly I don't care to know all the sordid details as long as I know HCBN is staying to finish what he started! Go Yotes!

Anyone care to guess what Nielson's extension is worth? He's listed at $255k right now on the state's website. He's gotta break $300k if we just kept him away from a school ready to double his salary. I hope Herbster squirreled away a few bucks to buy the trophy cases we're going to need.

I would guess between $300-325K. Equally important for Bob will be the pool of money that he gets to use for his assistant coaches.

I understand that it is the nature of the beast at this level to find a coach, have success and then watch them move up the ladder, however it would have been devastating, in my personal opinion, if Bob had left. We have so much positive momentum right now and we could not have afforded to take a step or two backwards. I am not sure how the team would have handled another change in leadership and culture.
I give heaping loads of credit to Strev, but I think that his greatest contribution to this program may have been covering up for the general youth of the rest of the team. What this season did is it gave the young guys a taste of winning and also what it takes to be winners. Along the way, it bought time for these young guys to grow up. Next year, instead of a team full of Freshman and Sophomores, it will be a team of Sophomores and Juniors. That is going to pay major dividends. In addition, maybe more significantly, we will also have a nice crop of Freshman and RS Freshman that are able to add much needed depth throughout the team.
I would argue that depth, specifically on defense, is the reason we are done playing this season. Yes, injuries to Strev's hand and to the OL were material, but losing Dixon, Wessel, Coker, Powell, Shultz, Witcomb and the 3 clowns that sold out their team and will remain nameless are the reason we are done. Go back and add up those names, that could nearly be an entire starting defensive unit!
To be clear, this is not in any way assigning blame to those injured, quite the opposite (they were warriors), it is simply to say that having more bodies to be the "next man up" will be significant in the future.

Could not say it better! It is great to be moving forward with this staff and all their young talent. The loss of Bob and maybe others in his staff would have also had an effect on this years recruits, but now we may see even more potential recruits commit to USD. Hopefully they can attract a transfer or two, or maybe a Juco signing to fill in our current holes and add more needed depth, and if they do, the sky might be the limit for this group of players! Still a chance we could lose an assistant before we get to February, but as it looks now, most of this staff will be together to bring pain to the rest of the MVFC!
