I highly doubt this was some crazy rumor started by some opposition to undermine the recruiting process...and if it was it could have been quickly dispelled by Bob or the school immediately instead of some 44 hours later. That said, I'm glad he is staying, the MVFC is much better with strong programs and competition. Hate to agree with a jacks fan, but I have to agree with a jacks fan here. Put the tinfoil hats away

Hold on - YF didn't say anything. He agreed that there may have been an agenda for someone else to plant the rumor. He did not say it was from the opposition and neither did GoYotes. You are thinking too narrowly in scope. There are many folks that may have motives that are adverse to an organization. It doesn't have to be from an opponent or for recruiting purposes.

I wonder if the rumor was started by a member of the current coaching staff to use as leverage for negotiations. Their complete silence over those couple of days says a lot.

I'm curious as to who is speculated to have started this rumor and as to what the agenda may have been for them plant this rumor? Agenda...? The agenda is recruits... If you can convince recruits that a coach at an opposing school is leaving, you can sway them to come to your school. Recruiting is everything and rumors can sway or entice these young men quite easily... Hence the reason Stig won't announce he is retiring this year until after signing day to make sure they get all the recruits in that they have been recruiting. He will retire this year. Zimmer's fluff piece on him last week set that in motion. I am trying to sort out the information that Nielson has 10 years left at 58 years old and Stig is ready for the rocking chair at 60. I would be surprised to see either retire prior to mid 60's or beyond.

Outstanding article, Mick. One of the best pieces you've ever written or that I've read on this particular subject in a long time. With all the good obviously comes the bad and I personally think a Pandora's box has been open...but look where I'm posting this. As you said, using that shopworn phrase, "It is what it is".

Wonder if his assistants got any bumps? Schlafke? He’s the boy genius. Think Streveler might get a free dinner out of the deal?

One would think assistants getting bumps too. They can actually probably happen annually since they still work on 1 year deals.

After I asked Mick for clarification since Bob had a year left on original deal, got this:
