So all the rumors turned out to be a giant, steaming pile of cow plop. Refresh my memory...wasn't it our old friend Matt Zimmer who originally got the ball rolling on all this with a tweet? Fake news or alternative facts?

It started with a Sunday update from footballscoop.com. Everyone ran with it from there.

I'm certain Bob either pursued or was pursued. These rumors weren't baseless. Too many signs to wave off.

But there could be an agenda for someone else to plant the rumor.

I'm curious as to who is speculated to have started this rumor and as to what the agenda may have been for them plant this rumor?

The only reason Duluth picked it up is because Bob used to work there. They got the Footballscoop story and ran with it. The entire thing originated with Footballscoop.

Zach Schneider was on KWSN and the podcast is available online. Sure didn’t sound like his sources were simply the football scoop report. Seems reasonable to me he would have some sources close to the situation, but I could be wrong. I don’t believe there was nothing to this at all. I wouldn’t be surprised if Bob talked to Kent State. Either way I’m glad he is staying.

I'm curious as to who is speculated to have started this rumor and as to what the agenda may have been for them plant this rumor? Agenda...? The agenda is recruits... If you can convince recruits that a coach at an opposing school is leaving, you can sway them to come to your school. Recruiting is everything and rumors can sway or entice these young men quite easily... Hence the reason Stig won't announce he is retiring this year until after signing day to make sure they get all the recruits in that they have been recruiting. He will retire this year. Zimmer's fluff piece on him last week set that in motion.

I highly doubt this was some crazy rumor started by some opposition to undermine the recruiting process...and if it was it could have been quickly dispelled by Bob or the school immediately instead of some 44 hours later.
That said, I'm glad he is staying, the MVFC is much better with strong programs and competition.

Come on guys - this wasn't a planted story from an opposing team. Footballscoop and the Duluth guy don't take an opposing team as a source. Kent St. was (likely still is) trying to get Nielson. No one has ever said KSU isn't trying to get him.

I don't know what to think, but if YF says it was a ploy, then I have to say that there is a good chance it was. His track record for knowing what goes on behind the scenes in Yotes athletics is pretty darned good.
I just hope we get the info that an extension has been signed soon so we can make this a 100% guarantee that Nielson and Co. aren't going anywhere.
