The tenure he had at UMD, then his willingness to leave WIU for USD (rather than take a MAC offer) really gave me the impression that he was seeking his final coaching job in Vermillion. I certainly hadn't been expecting Nielson to leave already.
Could just be leverage. Look at how many high profile coaches have used open jobs elsewhere to secure extensions this year already.

The money is not lost on me, I get it. But my point stands. As to an upper FBS job opportunity, he is 58 years old. I understand if you can coach, you'll get a job regardless of your age. But, for example, (without researching) I am guessing UCF isn't looking for a 60 year old coach from the MAC to replace Scott Frost. If they're taking somebody that age, then they will be taking a guy who has coached at a higher FBS level. But then again, I am biased. I want Bob to stay. How old was Frank Solich when he took the Ohio job? 61. He's 73 now.

Key word is seek. Wouldn’t that be the goal if he stays? Truth, every team enters the season undefeated, seeking a championship. Fun fact, semantics are a great way to make a point with zero substance.

This doesn’t shock me...I’m sure other FBS teams might be interested in Bob. He has proven that he can recruit, build, rebuild and win at all the levels he has coached...he deserves to go to the next level and continue in his career. I would hate to see him go for selfish reasons but for him and his staff I’m glad for their opportunity if it’s true.

I mean, do you want to seek an FCS National Championship, or the Dollar General Bowl? FCS championship? Slow down Bucky, win the conference and get a seed first...then you can start talking crazy. Do you want to make low to mid six figures or seven figures with opportunity to advance to an upper FBS job? Maybe bob's not a bullish on the Yotes as we are? Did he catch lightning in a bottle with streveler and this team? How often does a guy like that fall into you lap and help put a program in the map. Just a thought maybe he wants to go now before this house of cards falls. My question is what players would he take with him?

Extremely complicated process to transfer out and not sit out a year.

Probably most of the recruits yet to sign. I think this all plays out quickly because of recruiting and the early signing period.

Taking the staff and having to start this process all over is the biggest issue if he leaves.

The coaching staff is the key, who stays? They can triple their salaries as well.

Not really that hard to do. Greenfield? Henry? Case?

By the way I love the Argus Leader drama behind all this. I think when Mick Garry tweeted "You others" he was referring to Matt Zimmer who covers SDSU for Argus Leader. He was the first one to tweet the Football Scoop story. Is stig and the jacks behind all of this??? I would think otherwise, but after the #crampgate I wouldn't put it past them. What the hell? Anyways, Nielsen’s a great coach and this would be very deserved. For obvious reasons I’d love for him to leave USD. Your team had a great season!

I'm not convinced Nielson is going anywhere. Could just be hurrying up his contract extension. I think several coaches have already used Tennessee for that this year already. Or you know what? Maybe Nielson has his Power 5 opening right there! No one seems to actually want the job.

Also, you’ll have your answer if he’s leaving very soon. With the early signing period he’ll want to leave or announce he’s staying for recruiting.

With all this speculation a local Ohio (Alliance) has Ed Warinner, former Ohio State offensive coordinator, Notre Dame offensive line coach and current Gopher assistant as the targeted candidate.
