I mean, do you want to seek an FCS National Championship, or the Dollar General Bowl? That's my thoughts as well. Bob isn't a spring chicken and would have to win at Kent State for at least three years before getting a Power 5 offer worth a crap.

At mid season I could see Bob as a desirable candidate but after the finish the Coyotes had I am not sure if I was a FBS program that I would be quite as quick to want to hire him. Just looking at what a FBS school would be considering. His stock IMO is actually slightly down right now. Next season that could improve or it could maybe go down some more. If he has someone willing to pull the trigger on him and it is any kind of a boost in stature or salary now would be a good time for him to jump.

Bob has been a solid FCS coach but I wouldn't consider him at elite status, at least not yet. He was definitely elite in D2 no question but in the FCS he hasn't risen to a real high level yet.

csnbbs.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=474This is the Kent State board if anyone is interested in following any possible rumors. So far Bob Nielson has not come up in rumors on their board but there was mention of the SD vs SHSU game in their coaching search thread. It didn't mention anything about SHSU or USD's coach but there was some talk about wanting a more explosive offense at least with one poster. After the loss to the Rabbits I was thinking to myself that if nothing else that will keep the Nielson rumors of leaving a little more quiet.

FWIW, I went to the Football Scoop website yesterday afternoon to see if/where Nielson's name was being rumored. Must have been before this rumor. If you don't think a struggling program hasn't noticed the quick turnarounds at WIU and USD - combined with an exciting brand of football to get fans in the seats - then you are nuts. Imagine this years team with 20 more scholarship players to combat all the injuries.
You are also nuts if you don't think that tripling his salary for a few years as he nears retirement age isn't the right decision for his family.

Of course he should take the opportunity to move to a higher paying job if offered. I am not debating that nor am I debating his exciting brand of football. The thing I am mentioning is that the finish to the year did hurt his stock. It might not have hurt it enough for him to get better offers but it hurt it a little.

I know it doesn't mean much coming from me but I would say in my opinion there's little to no chance that he leaves.

Frankly I'm a little pissed that everyone keeps bringing up how we finished the season. It's a marathon not a sprint. This team in less than 24 months went from doormat to the playoffs. Let's look at the body of work people. Yes we started off strong and lost a couple down the stretch. But this team NEVER quit and NEVER made excuses. If I'm looking for a coach I want a guy who has dealt with a little adversity. Bob has that experience in spades. Would I hate to see bob and his staff leave, of course but I would be the first to thank him for his efforts and wish him nothing but the best wherever he may land.

USD was playing for the 10th week in a row, 4 of the last 5 on the road, missing several starters on defense, against a team coming off a bye week, featuring the reigning POY at QB, and we still about brought things home for a quarterfinal matchup.
I can't believe anyone would want Nielson leading their program.
