Kent State board reporting that Neilson is on campus today. If he is on campus there, then it's pretty much a done deal... Was a fun two years... My enthusiasm for the 2018 season is diminishing... we get excited about a new coach, buy into their philosophy and outlook for the team they are coaching, then they move on. This coaching carousel we find ourselves on every year or two is really making it hard on the athletes, supporters, and boosters... Unless we retain one of the current coaches, you are looking at another year of the athletes (who remain) learning a new offense and trying to win games in the Valley in the mean time. Athletes are going to look at USD as a school that can't keep the coaches that brought them in and not want to play here. Herbster is the only stable factor in the entire equation. He has been amazing at finding talented coaches, but that has to be exhausting for him as well. #InHerbsterwetrust I know, speaking for myself, that I will not be getting too attached to any new coach that comes in... why go through all that heartbreak over and over again. Sorry, needed to vent... Just feeling deflated right now after such a great season (despite what CF says).

This Bob Nielson situation is exactly why i said during mid season that the team this year had to make the most of themselves because nothing is guaranteed next year. we couldnt just assume that next years team was going to be better.

Has anyone heard from Yoteforever on this topic? He is usually our insider for this type of info but I don't think that I have seen him weigh in on this topic.

Didn't I read somewhere that Urban Meyer always wanted to live in South Dakota?

Didn't I read somewhere that Urban Meyer always wanted to live in South Dakota? Hell NO! Also, they are having a great time at our expense on this topic over on the bunny boards.

He's been relatively quiet the past couple weeks. I think we've already got the scoop though. Bob is interviewing elsewhere, and we have to hope it is just for leverage here.

. +1 On this comment. Jim would be a perfect fit I couldn't find out what he makes currently, but according to this 2014 budget: www.ucmo.edu/hlc/documents/Virtual%20Resource%20Room/Board%20Reports/Budget%20Book%20Final%20FY%2014.pdfHe was making $126,250 and his 5 assistant coaches were paid a total of $302,638 (ave. 60k). Add 429k "personal services", 146k staff benefits, 206k general ops, for a total football budget of 780k They also show a total football revenue of $57,750 on the year. I think that is all on the high side for Division II, but we can offer more. I'm not going all in on this guy, just wanted to get an idea of the comparison of a top D-II program vs. where USD is at. By going this route, we can attract a top coach without having to break the bank for the first couple of years. (renegotiate the contract to keep him in the fold if he has success)

That's the same source from a couple pages back. I'll say this isn't a new development.

Kent State almost dropped football in 2015.
Kent State has had 5 winning seasons in my lifetime:
-----1976 8-4 -----1977 6-5----- 3rd year Coach Dennis Fitzgerald left for Syracuse in 1978 -----1987 7-4----- 2nd year Coach Glen Mason left for Kansas in 1988 -----2001 6-5----- 4rth year Coach Dean Pees -----2012 11-3---- 2nd year Coach Darrell Hazell left for Purdue in 2013
Kent State's football attendance is in the bottom 10 of FBS. You can't win a National Championship at Kent State.
To me this is just about the money.
