^^^ Yeah, that. Yotes and crazie pretty much sum up my response. Summit League WBB should and will be a two-bid league, so RPI absolutely matters, at least for the SD teams. It probably matters less for the other teams, so the incentive to boost RPI likely is not there.
I think WIU and ORU's schedules reflect that strategy. They have been good enough to get some Power schools to schedule them, but for the rest of the schedule they are just aiming for wins. Kind of like we should be doing in football.
For WBB I think that an RPI of 40 or above is approximately the line for auto-bids, but voter prejudice toward power conferences plays a part. SDSU has built up enough of a reputation with the voters to get that bid, and hopefully we will at some point too.

I don’t have a feel for the fact that the Summit is close to being a 2 bid league for women. That’s good news and that in and of itself supports the argument for tougher schedule. I hope you’re right

I think there are several signs that the Summit is close. Last year the Jacks got an 8 seed, and the Yotes made a run in the WNIT. The Jacks have won games in the dance and made deep runs in the WNIT in the recent past. We have won the WNIT recently. The Summit's RPI has risen to be one of the premier mid-major conferences. If the voters aren't noticing the trend, then shame on them.

I was told once that they look for reasons to put P5 teams in the tournament and conversely look for reasons to keep mid majors out. Sad and pissed off as it makes me, I don't see the Summit getting two bids anytime soon. I really hope I'm wrong.

This is the year. I just know it. The Great Pumpkin is going to choose our pumpkin patch. Wait, what? I meant to say, this is the year we finally kick that football, and Lucy won’t pull it out at the last second.... Oh Good Grief!

Last year, the teams did some type of a basketball showcase just before the season started. I don’t remember what it was called. Has anyone heard anything about this type of event planned for this year?

Has anyone heard anything about this type of event planned for this year? I can't remember what it was called either or the timeline for that matter, but it was publicized really well if I recall. I would think it would be sometime before the season's first game or at least the first home game. Last year was the first time for the event and I thought it was well attended and people enjoyed it. I guess that's really not much help.

Women's schedule with Massey win probability: (and my picks)
@ Creighton--------23% L (L) vs Incarnate Word-99% W (W) @ Drake------------40% L (W) vs Wichita St-------83% W (W) @ Montana---------79% W (W) vs Iowa St----------50% ? (W) vs Green Bay-------43% L (W) @ Missouri St-------56% W (W) vs Bellevue (ex.)--100% W (W) @ Missouri----------20% L (L) N Grambling--------93% W (W) N Loyola Mrymt-----70% W (W) N Indiana------------30% L (L)
Even with all the returning starters, there are sometimes some wrinkles in the first couple games. That was the case last year @ Iowa State, and will be the case this year @ Creighton. We will be ready for Drake, and get the upset, and we will get revenge on the Cyclones at our place.
Green Bay is a great team, but they travel to SDSU right before coming to Vermillion. That might give us an edge psychologically. Plus the Jacks are a physical team and might take it to them a little. I could be wrong on that one, but I'll give the homer pick.
Missouri and Indy are both on upward trajectories with good coaches, and will get it done in very competitive games.
Massey has us losing twice to the Jacks in the season, but I think we split with them. We will both defend the home gym. That could set up a tie for Conference champs, (repeat for Yotes). I can't remember what the tiebreaker is for seeding. Head-to-head, record against each league team, then RPI, I think? Either way, I see another epic all-SD champ game, with a different outcome...
NCAA Tourney (10 seed) and get the 1st round upset! The Jacks finally earn the Summit's first at-large bid, but are so deflated with losing the SLT, they under-perform and lose.

This is my homer prediction to counter the doom and gloom prediction for the men's team...

Women's schedule with Massey win probability: (and my picks) @ Creighton--------23% L (L)----Wvs Incarnate Word-99% W (W)---W @ Drake------------40% L (W)----L vs Wichita St-------83% W (W)--84 @ Montana---------79% W (W)--81 vs Iowa St----------50% ? (W)--- 50vs Green Bay-------43% L (W)--- 46@ Missouri St------56% W (W)--- 52vs Bellevue (ex.)--100% W (W)-100 @ Missouri----------20% L (L)----29N Grambling--------93% W (W)--95 N Loyola Mrymt-----70% W (W)--65 N Indiana------------30% L (L)---33Updated with actual results, and new massey odds. Creighton was a nice upset, but Drake lived up to the billing. Creighton got destroyed by the Jacks, so there's that. The middle stretch of Iowa State, Green Bay and Missouri State should tell us a lot about where this team is at. Nice to have two of those games at home!

I guess we have a good idea where this team is at.... And I just wanted to point out that I was right about the last three games...

NDSU has lost another player, as Reilly Jacobson has left the team. On their message boards, they are all frustrated with their team this year, even comparing themselves very unfavorably to MSU Moorhead and Jamestown.... I'm pretty sure Jacobson had already been sitting out this season for some undisclosed reason. Might have been disciplinary? She was a good player for them last year, so that's a big loss. She is from Waukee, IA, and is the sister of Mike Jacobson (former NU and current ISU player). I don't know what is going on with some of the struggling Summit teams this year. WIU can't buy a rebound or a win. Both ND schools are trending south fast. Gravina is a good coach, so I guess the loss of all his starters is a big hit. With the ND schools I think they both need to clean house and get better coaches. I'm not surprised Denver is doing well, but Omaha is over-performing with a complete roster overhaul. Brittany is a very young and soft-spoken coach, but I think she is on to something down there. She is a former (and recent) player for both Fennelly (ISU) and Flanery (Creighton), and started as a volunteer player-coach under Fennelly.

No, this is Reilly, not Sara. Sara is red-shirting this year. Unless they both were?
