Targeting can happen and does happen to many great and clean players. I thought the targeting was late and was a little on the cheap side. I was embarrassed by the events that took place after the targeting call. To celebrated, raise a hand, and cheer for a ejected player was BS! I was embarrassed to be wearing red when that crap occurred. Mr. Gray's actions should have had a coach take away his playing time revoked. Too many great kids on this team to have a few ruin it for everyone. Our coaches are better than that!

Attendance didn’t look good The attendance was 8517. That was butts in the seats. If all of the people that had tickets would have shown up, there would have been 11,000+ there. I guess about 3000 people thought it was too cold and decided to watch it on TV. It is tough to tell with all of the cameras on the side with the suites, boxes, season ticket holders, etc... I appreciate the apology, too. I know that both teams have some fans that don't think their team can do anything wrong but there are fans for both teams that have an open mind. That’s why the place looked empty, it was only a quarter to half full. It’s a nice stadium. Can it be retro fitted with a dome?

You would think that they could have afforded a tarp to cover the field. I wasn't like the snow was a last minute surprise.

I did not see the play from yesterday that got him ejected, but he does not sound like a disciplined player. At least Johnson shakes his head when Gray lifts his arm up as the "victor", and I'm not so sad to see Gray departing after this showing of character. We've got enough young DBs proving themselves. I hope they're better leaders than Gray likely was.

I will add however that it is unfortunate in life we are often judged by our worst public moment. Unfortunately for him that was a very bad moment and it was very public. I have watched his career closely and have never seen anything like that (from Gray) and am disappointed that is the capstone for a really good career that he had otherwise. Most of us should be thankful that our worst moments in life are not televised nor broadly publicly known. I wish him well, thank him for all the good memories, and hope he learns from that moment.

This Coyote team has had some problems with intensity levels this year but I give them credit in the game Saturday! After being down 28-7 in the first Q with this season's difficulties against the number 5 or 6 ranked team in the nation, with miserable weather and field conditions, they could have all very easily have mailed in the last 3Qs--BUT THEY DIDN'T which gives me hope for the future!! A special thanks to the seniors for being a big part of the Coyotes first FCS playoff win, all the exciting plays in the last 4 years and all your hard work!! Best of luck in the future!!!

I think it comes down to the kids we put on the football field. Watching the selection show today i began to wonder about rosters. Did some checking, 10 players on the USD roster have South Dakota roots. 27 players on the SDSU roster have South Dakota roots. I decided to watch the game again and watch for South Dakota kids making plays in the Rivalry Game. USD 2 or 3 contributors? SDSU 10-12? All told SDSU has more homegrown kids playing in the rivalry game. Why do kids like Krolikowske by pass the U and head north? 2 Starting D-Tackles are South Dakota boys, and fun to watch. Lets win the battle here in state! SD kids are a good base to build a better program!

Agreed overall that it would be nice to recruit better locally. Been told that Krowlikski had an older brother who played for USD his freshman year before transferring out. The older brother didn’t have a great experience and thus his younger bro didn’t consider us. I hope that with some consist at the HC it will lead to more inroads locally. We’ve got some good connections with Harrisburg kids right now. Just need to keep working at it.

I agree with getting the top in state kids, but northwest Iowa is fertile ground for FCS players and Iowa is just a jump shot away. We need to strengthen ties and build long term relationships there as well

Agree w/ the NW Iowa comment. Backhuis,Snyder, Rozeboom can play. Those three guys were dominating on defense. Looking at their 2018 class they will have 4 really good contributors in that class as well. Greenfield, Walhof, Van Maral, and Snyder are all players we recruited, but didn't land. With Greenfields success I thought we might get more from that area.

Lets win the battle here in state! SD kids are a good base to build a better program! Some of this is simply due to the location of the universities. USD has always pulled a lot of kids from Iowa and Nebraska, not only athletes, but students in general. Also, Iowa, Iowa State, and Nebraska have figured out that there are some nice players in our state, which makes it difficult to keep the top kids within our borders. With NDSU's dominance, they tend to pull the next tier of kids. There may be a few "diamonds in the rough" remaining, but evaluating that talent can be difficult given the lack of depth that South Dakota high school football provides. Some of those kids may show up at a summer camp and really standout, which can help. I agree that I'd like to see more SD kids on the roster, but the coaches need to allocate resources to where they will reap the greatest benefit.

SD kids are an uphill battle for us. An 18 year-old today wasn't even alive the last time USD beat state in football, and has gotten to hear about their multiple trips to the playoffs. Their on-campus in-state undergrad population is significantly higher (4,347 to 2,855 for Fall 18) so you can count on their friends being there. And if they come from a rural background they'll feel right at home with the redneck culture instilled on campus.
It's probably wise for our staff to put a much greater emphasis on the best players from nearby states who couldn't make the Power 5 team instead.

Rozeboom’s only offer out of HS besides SDSU was to Northwestern (IA).
Little known fact, when Streveler committed to Minnesota his only offer was from SDSU. They wanted him bad.
