Good for her. A P-5 offer is a pretty appealing thing. I admittedly know nothing about KU WBB. I follow the SL and that's about it. Growing up, we had Creighton WBB season tickets but only because I have a cousin that was playing there. Outside of that, I know very little about women's college basketball. My question is, does the KU WBB program have a big following or great fan support? I honestly don't know. It just seems like South Dakota (both schools) really gets up and supports their women's teams. More so than the men's teams. Really, in terms of buzz and fan support, they are almost at the same level as football, at least in USDs case. It's obviously a result of winning and sustained success. I can definitely see the appeal of going to Kansas - you get to play on the big stage, at the school known for basketball tradition (not necessarily WBB), play in the Big 12 - I get all that. But it would be pretty hard to pass up a chance to play at either of the SD schools. The chance to play for a team that would probably beat Kansas and to lace em up every week and play for what has become the biggest show in town. I don't know how heavily we recruited her and frankly I don't really care. I trust what Dawn is doing and know she has a proven plan for player personnel.

I don’t have any insight into the situation, but high school kids are usually pretty impressionable and find the "big brand" of big schools appealing. That big brand might have her assuming more people in Lawrence care about WBB than reality. I might Google attendance data later this evening out of curiosity.
I remember the fall of my senior year being torn between being an athlete at USF or NSU or being a regular student at Minnesota. Gratefully, USD and SDSU came knocking in the winter and offered a big enough stage for my ego. I found that I loved repping my home state. That's just my experience. Bella may very well find herself wanting to transfer closer to home after her first year.

After watching some videos of Joy she fits the mold of the type of player Dawn loves. She is aggressive, shoots 3's, and play tenacious defense. One thing that sticks out is that she will take a charge within thinking twice. Appears to be a team player. She was all state in class 3A in the state of IL. Welcome Joy!!!

Wow. 5-11 PG/SG with a bunch of mid-major offers. Sounds like her very recent AAU game performances were getting some attention. We may have struck at the right time with her.
HS season (Junior) stats:
16.2 PPG, 4.5 REB, 1.8 AST, 1.4 STL, 0.3 BLK
40%/33%/88% shooting
Illinois 3A all-state team
I like the rebound number for a guard. Assume she was playing SG with the lower assist#. Great shooting numbers. Defense doesn't always show up in stats, but she has been described as playing good D.

Here's a tweet showing her D-1 offers as of March, she picked up one also from SMU after that.

Looks like a nice get. The Coyotes should be winning battles against the colleges listed for the most part.

Nice pickup. Good work Coach P and staff. Looks like she could be an early contributor when she gets on campus.

I think this was an "under the radar" pick who seemed to be performing at a level in AAU where she was going to get some better offers this summer, but we offered at the right time. I was looking at a spreadsheet online of Illinois recruits and who had offered them so far from the 2022 class. Surprisingly, many of the sought-after recruits still haven't committed yet. I saw multiple offers from NDSU, UND, Omaha and UMKC, along with St. Louis. None from USD (hadn't been updated yet). Seems like some programs put out a ton of offers, and USD has the luxury of being a little more selective.
I'll also say that with three open scholarships for 2022, we likely will only see one more addition to this class. In the past, Coach P has kept a scholarship open. AJ does the same thing, I believe. I assume it is for unexpected opportunities on transfer kids?

(It is pretty easy to root against that guy...)

Looks like 11 of the 12 in the transfer portal have already found new homes, many at top schools like South Carolina, Louisville, Gonzaga, Clemson and Georgia Tech. This mostly happened back in April. Not sure who would be left. I take your point, though. Interesting that USD and SDSU's women's programs have been largely unaffected. No transfers out or in. I would have thought some of the transfers available would be attractive recruiting targets. Shows how much I know! *edit: you said "commits". I get it. never mind........

Joy appears to be a very good addition! Congrats to Coach P and staff.
Fingers crossed that she hasn't suffered any brain damage from playing basketball with that stupid *ing mask on.
