They haven't posted the game notes with the "2 Deep" for Montana. I thought they used to post that on the Monday before the game or am I not remembering correctly? This always comes out on Tuesday's, typically check the website in the afternoon and it will be there.

I'm also of the opinion the Yotes will win a hard fought game by about 7 points. I see two very evenly matched teams and I think the difference will be Montana having to travel for their first game. If the game were to be played in Montana I would give the edge to the Griz for the same reason.

Home field advantage will certainly provide a boost. I'm anxious to see how our defense looks. I'm worried they might be a bit shaky in their first game in the new system as is usual when adjusting to new schemes. Our offense, which should be even better and more balanced than year, will probably have to score 30+ to win. A win on Saturday would be a huge confidence builder. It would be hard to bounce back from an 0-2 start.

The depth chart has been posted. Some items of note are that Canaan Brooks is listed above Ben Klett and that Alex Jensen is the starting LT. We also have two redshirt freshman starting on the OL. Kam Cline is listed as a DT. Was that the case last year? Finally, there aren't really any surprises for the defense which is littered with experience.

Wow, not much respect for our yotes on the egriz fan forum. Most of their posters are picking a blow out. This overconfidence reminds me of the fan forum comments before the North Dakota game two years ago. My opinion, the team with the fewest mistakes will win the game. I believe the teams are that close in talent. I also think it could turn into a track meet. If our new defense is effective at shutting them down, we could see a repeat of the UND game. Regardless, I’m excited for a great opening game.

I don't know what to make of that and wonder if they're always that way or if it's just a lot of false bravado. It did remind me of the UND pregame chatter a few years back too. Only difference was that the Fighting Poo fans came on here to thump their chests and there hasn't been UM fans posting here as of yet anyway.

Don’t let the confidence of Egriz fool you. We as Griz fans are very unsure of what this season has in store. Yes a lot of us believe that we should be the superior team... there is no proof yet that we are. We have laid some real eggs in the last few years on the road. A few quick highlights about us.
Our OL is going to be a big upgrade from last year, while the OL was the prime reason of failure at points last year. We now have size and experience up front to help communicate. Will they stop your powerful DL? No but they should hold up enough to not be the main factor of the game.
The two QBs on the field are probably two of the most underrated. Obviously we know your QBs talent and Sneed is no different. He can run and make plays without hesitation. He really saved the day for us last year...but he made some first year QB mistakes with turnovers. He will need to cut those down.
Our WR and return teams are top tier. I don’t think you will face a better WR team. Akem is a true baller and has size and hands in the middle and deep game. We have one shifty WR in JLM that will twist and turn, stop and pop you to death...literally. Then we have a burner in Sulser that made defenders look silly with his speed as a freshman last year. Add in 3 other WRs that would start on most bigsky teams and it is a deep good group and I think is the key matchup for your defense. Can your new and stylish defense shut them down? It will be fun to watch.
Our LBs and Safety play is very deep and good. We probably will bring a myriad of blitz packages as we play 3 safeties and are 6 deep that all have good experience. LB play is obviously good with Olson being a all American and Lewis being the next in line for our deep history of excellent linebackers. Olson I think lead all FCS in tackles, so he will be in on a ton of plays. Our DL is the ? On that side of the ball. We have some transfers and we’re not playing freshman upfront like we did last year. We should improve there but we still have ?s. Will USD be able to sit in the pocket? If you can and pick us apart with your excellent QB...that might also be the game changer.
Overall I’m a Montana fan and I truly believe we have turned the corner on our growth. I think we are a 8-9 win team this year and I think we have the ability to win this one. I’ll say the Griz walk away with a 7 point 31-24 type win....but really we don’t have any idea. Could we blow you out....ehhhh idk. Could we get blown out....sure.
Have a great week everyone!

Realistically, for USD and Montana, this feels like a season where neither fanbase is going to truly have an accurate feel for their team until after the first game. It seems to me that there are reasons for optimism and caution on both sides. For those reasons, I am expecting a highly entertaining and competitive game on Saturday. Home field advantage may give USD a slight edge.

Sounds like both teams are coming from similar places Questions: USD - LB and OL Mont - DL and OL Strengths: USD - QB, WR, DL, DB Mont - QB, WR, LB, DB How are your special teams?I always think of Montana as having a strong return game. How are your kickers?

2013. #12 Montana returns a kickoff for a TD late to survive a game in the Dome coming back to win 31-27. That's what I remember of the Griz return game.
2014. USD travels to Montana and loses a hard fought 28-20 contest.
2013 & 2014 are the only times we have played Montana as an FCS equal and, let's be honest, those Coyote teams were bad finishing with records of 4-8 & 2-10. We've played some good Montana teams pretty tight with some pretty bad Yote teams. Montana in 2013 finished the season ranked 8th with a 10-3 record and a second round playoff loss. Montana in 2014 finished season ranked 11th with a 9-5 record and a second round playoff loss. Does anybody think today's Coyote football team and program are in a much better, much stronger position than back in 2013-2014? I do. I think we are much better now and I don't really think Montana has elevated themselves from those 2013-2014 days.
I still think it will be a tough contest but honestly wouldn't be surprised if we manhandled the Griz at home.

We are definitely much more talented now than the last two times we faced Montana, but there has been about zero results to show for it aside from Streveler's senior season. I'm afraid we will struggle mightily again this year because of a link in the chain that is much weaker than the rest. We are going to learn a lot on Saturday.

The Coyotes struggled on the OL & running game in 2018 and still had a chance to win most games. We gifted UNI 21 and lost by 14 and were outmatches in the trenches. If the OL, although younger, is even marginally better, do we not think the offense will be better?
Can the defense be worse than it was in 2018? The LB are young but DL sounds healthier and deeper. The secondary is strong at safety and the CB’s are experienced.
Allegedly Lorber is better. Schutt is great. Case is a great return man.
If we score a few more points and give up a few less, shouldn’t we be better? I think so.
Also, Montana has already stated they are going to have to make adjustments on the fly since they don’t know what to expect from USD defensively. Is there a chance that allows us to get an early lead? Wouldn’t that help our defense too? How many teams come into the dome and blow us out? Not many. So at a minimum I think it’s competitive. I may be wearing red glasses, but I think we win.
