Someone brought up NDSU's success, well let's take a look. Dave Richman's first season was 2015.
2015-16 Bison were 20-13 2016-17 Bison were 19-11 2017-18 Bison were 15-17 2018-19 Bison were 19-16 * NCAA Tournament * Trailed Duke by 4 at halftime in NCAA Tourney 2019-20 Bison were 25-8 * NCAA Tournament
There are 172 pages on the NDSU board "Has Richman Run This Program into the Ground?" 172 pages with 250,000 views.
If some of the Coyote commenters had been in charge at NDSU, they would have fired Richman in 2018. And most likely missed back to back dances.
I am old enough to remember that Craig Smith was 17-16 and 14-18 in his first two seasons.
There are athletes who chose Vermillion to compete and represent USD who have spent 30-50 days of their first semester in quarantine. It's very early in a very weird season, for God's sake we play SDSU on back to back days, both at their place. When has that ever happened?
Go Yotes!

This is going to be an interesting season and many of you need to figure out how to just let things play out and save your evaluations for the end. I'm definitely not okay with a rebuild, and I'm not sold on Lee, but, given our program's history, what were we really to expect after losing last year's roster? Without any NCAA tournament appearances, we can only sell recruits on potential and everything else other than historical success. I certainly think we are more talented than we would be if we hadn't encouraged multiple players from last season's bench to transfer down to DII to make room for who we brought in. Plitzuweit, Fuller, Archambault, Goodrick (who is stuck in Aussieland), Koster, Zizic, and Kamateros are all guys I think have potential. Only Plitzuweit is starting right now. I will be surprised if KPH and Heiman start for long. Let's just accept this situation for what it is knowing that nothing can change the past and see how things progress knowing that next season may be a do or die year for Lee.

Well, shit! I was looking forward to finally getting to see them play in person and gauge the progress made from first Drake game a few weeks backs. Seems like we're the only school around here having games cancelled/postponed. Didn't say if it was us or them that had issues.

Like elcoyote looking forward to seeing this team back on the floor, especially a Drake rematch, will help show progress.
I don't disagree with the discussions regarding Coach Lee on this thread, however, I do have patience to see what develops. In his 3rd year, I honestly feel like he's had one 'complete' year of coaching to evaluate, in which he won 20 games, and was upset by a rising program, that shot lights out in the first half of the SLT. This year has been anything but normal with COVID. I'm not making excuses, and this is not a 'throw away' year, so Coach will have to produce with mostly the talent he recruited, COVID or no, but it's early and I'm encouraged to see some signs of improvement game by game.
Nothing I saw at the Dakota Classic that dampens my enthusiasm, I think the Coyotes can compete with the best in this year's Summit League. We shall see!

I've got my own judgements on Lee based my disappointment last year (which went much deeper than one game against UND in Sioux Falls), but I'm not gonna hold anything against him this year.
This entire season is basically an exhibition. You won't be able to convince me this season is anything else when the team is gonna play like 15 games and every part of that is extremely hampered by safety precautions. Like, we are missing a player because they can't enter the country or something.
Get what enjoyment out of it that you can though. I had a lot of fun watching that game Saturday.

This is a distorted season, I was just trying to say that whatever becomes of the season, these are Coach Lee's guys (minus the "Lock-Down Under") and it's fair to evaluate his recruiting more so than the previous 2 seasons. Any word on Hunter? I hope he is healthy. His skill set is really missed by this team. I was looking forward to his 2nd year in the program.

I think seasons like this filled with adversity show us who the real coaches are. Not a surprise to me that in Big Ten football this season the coaches who are really good at developing players and coaching, Fitzgerald and Ferentz had really good years and their teams got better as the season progressed. Then you look at who had crap years. Franklin relies on the Penn State talent rather than coaching. Fleck, sells snake oil. Frost is a flop. Harbaugh's program spiraled further into disaray. It's not just the Big Ten either. Saban, Dabo didn't miss a beat. Sumlin was a trainwreck that got fired.
Actually, this year should tell as A LOT about Lee as a coach.
