So, with all that going on in the USA with the corona virus is there even going to be a 2020 season? And what about senior's future eligibility if it's cancelled? Will it start late like maybe October 1st or something like that and simply skip the September games? Will they even allow fans into stadiums to watch the games? When will the players even be able to come back and practice? For what it's worth, I read one prominent major college coach being quoted as saying that in order to start the season as scheduled they absolutely have to be back by July 1st to train and condition or there would be too many injuries. Besides the obvious health ramifications, player safety does have to be a huge consideration. Crazy, unprecedented times.

I would take a stab at an answer, but really it's all just wild speculation. I guess that's 90% of what we do on here, though. May as well:
1. Setting the season back a month might work. Cancelling the non-conference games could do the same.
2. From the sound of it, there could be another flare-up in the Fall/Winter, since we likely still won't have a workable vaccine by then (although you never know). If that is the case, the whole fall season could just get cancelled. Maybe winter, too.
3. Maybe it won't be as bad as the initial Spring outbreak we are experiencing, and they will allow sports, but with limited spectators? Universities and pro teams could just charge more for the streaming/TV in order to cut losses. A net loss for the sports industry, but at least we as fans would have something to follow again. Good for morale. I'd pay for it.
4. At this point, a vaccine would be a Godsend. And obviously, not just for sports. Pray for that, I guess.

Barring a breakthrough, I don't expect football this year. If football does happen it will be an abbreviated season.

Over on goyotes.com Jon Thayer has posted the first of a three part yotecast dealing with the upcoming (hopefully) season. The first deals with the offense and what the staff is doing to keep players engaged in these unusual times. Defense and special teams will be the focus the next two Fridays. Makes for a good listen as some interesting insights are tossed out. Got my hopes up for the upcoming season, but the I went and flipped on the news...

I’d rather have a full season in the spring than abbreviated in fall.

I’d rather have a full season in the spring than abbreviated in fall. Main question with that is if it's too much to ask of the players physically to complete two full seasons in one calendar year. Seems like there'd only be a few months off before they're at it again. I don't have an answer for that question but I would be interested in knowing what the training staff thought. I like college football as much as anyone, but their main purpose here is not to entertain us.

Heard a few new rumors today today: Iowa State is only allowing 30,000 into their stadium for their game with us. I think that's about half capacity. Also, for what its worth, players are reporting back to campus on June 8th to start conditioning. I guess it would be nice if that's true. Some positive signs for football anyway. Sure hope everyone isn't jumping the gun on this. So many different opinions and observations out there I don't know what to think anymore.

There is a story in the Argus with quotes from Iowa State officials. I don't put any stock into their words as they won't be the ones to decide whether there will be a season or if fans are allowed in the building.
The situation remains fluid and anything planned more than a couple weeks out right now is no sure thing in this world.

While nothing is 100% certain, it is the intent of the NCAA to play college football in 2020. The NCAA has been in touch with, and coordinating all plans with the CDC. Hence the email sent by Jamie Pollard to all season ticket holders yesterday morning. Right now, stadium attendance is in the same category as restaurants, movie theatres, etc where they’re allowing 50% occupancy. Jack Trice stadium roughly holds 60,000 so hence the 30,000 number.
In the email, AD Pollard said that as of yesterday morning 22,000 season tickets and accompanying donations had been renewed. More than likely the 30,000 number will be reached and if CDC doesn’t change its guidelines, there won’t be any single game tickets sold. In his email, he also gave ticket holders an option to waive purchase of tickets this year and be guaranteed their seats in 2021 if there was concern about attending the game. If you paid up front for your renewal, you could get a refund or apply towards 2021 as well. This guy for my money is the best AD in major college football. He is in touch 100% with his fans, stakeholders, and ticket holders.
I will predict that this situation will continue to change and evolve. I see the possibility of more than 50% by September.
September 5th will come and go, and by the end of the day, we will have a feel for how the Coyotes will play this fall.

It will be interesting to see how things go with seats in the dome, if they are going to limit capacity and space us all out.

It will be interesting to see how things go with seats in the dome, if they are going to limit capacity and space us all out. That wouldn't be the end of the world, and better than the alternative. So if we went with 50% capacity, that would be around 4,500 to 5,000 seats? similar to last year, but with both sides utilized. Definitely less than we could have had, but NDSU will probably be the one Valley team most negatively effected. The Jacks won't be affected much at all, I think. The Marker game is in Fargo.

Season predictions?
This doesn’t give me a lot of confidence.
We play the top 4.
I think our OL will be better which might allow for a better running game. But QB is obviously a huge question. The defense can’t be worse can it? I can see anywhere from 4 to 7 wins but I am not predicting playoffs.

The defense can’t be worse can it? I can see anywhere from 4 to 7 wins but I am not predicting playoffs. Our record will ultimately comedown to (2) things....1. Quarterback play. He doesn’t need to be Strev or Austin but needs to move the chains, be consistent, and manage the game. 2. Our defense. 2019 can’t get repeated. If somehow our defense becomes the identity of our team, we’ll be just fine. I would love to be 5-3 in the Valley. I personally believe UNI is overrated. SDSU is SDSU. If we beat them in Cowtown then they will slide further. I understand Illinois States rankings. Truthfully, other than the Bison I don’t think the MVC is loaded. Good? Yes. Loaded? I don’t think we are.

If there is one thing I am very excited about, and we haven’t said this in a few years, is the OL. Jensen, although only his second year playing OL, is a junior. Wallace is a junior. Potts will be a sophomore. Diggs a senior. And Erbes a sophomore. All redshirted. The line feels like it will be very mature and with depth. Schneider has played some, Lombard got his feet wet last season. Gavin competed hard for center spot. Had heard Cliff Johnson was performing well before injury. Tschirhart is huge. They finally are developing an OL.
