Krull is really good. All the freshman that played had quality minutes. Missed Monica today. Hopefully she is not out long. Great to see Liv contributing more on the offensive end.

The Jacks are beating #15 Iowa State by 9 points in the 3rd. I plan to re-watch the end of that on ESPN3 to see Coach Fennelly whining about the refs. LOL Iowa State women's basketball coach Bill Fennelly to miss start of season while in quarantine. Iowa State women's basketball coach Bill Fennelly will miss the start of the season because he is in a 14-day quarantine period after coming into contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. Fennelly said Monday that he has tested negative, but is following medical protocol to isolate. Associate head coach Jodi Steyer will take over head-coaching duties while Fennelly, 63, is in quarantine. www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/30376325/iowa-state-women-basketball-coach-bill-fennelly-miss-start-season-quarantineI'm sure the ISU fans will say the loss was because Fennelly was missing and the Norwegian thugs. But ISU really struggled with Omaha a few days ago at home. OMAHA!

i am happy with just about everything with this game. i do agree that the play by play guy did a nice job. great to have Coyote radio in good hands. it has been awhile since we have had 2 quality guys at the mic.
how about those freshman. sounds like krull is a player and watson really brought it. couldnt get a feel for hansen as much so dont know. i hope dawn keeps with playing a deep bench. it allows for the team to have more energy on the court for longer. It will only be a huge benefactor in the summit tourney and since the jacks are typically the final why not have the depth advantage.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnJ2Qh_k-XoHere is a link to extended highlights from the game for those that did not watch it. Gonzaga on Monday is going to be interesting. I think that one could go either way.

Great highlights, but I wish the announcers would have done a better job of identifying the players. Hard to tell who's who from that perspective. Good lord is South Carolina fast.

I am not sure how deep Gonzaga is but that Yotes have a bit of an advantage going deep on the bench and playing the Zags one day after they have to play South Carolina. That doesn't mean they will win but I will take any advantage.
Here is the breakdown of the minutes played
Lamb 35 Sjerven 32 (that seems like a lot of minutes for her, not that I am complaining) Korngable 31 - with a stat line of 16 pts, 6 rebounds, 7 assists Krull 31 - and 6 of 9 shooting. Can she be efficient for a freshman. Ugofsky 21 - did not realize she played that much Watson 19 - seemed like an effective 19 Hansen 11 Kunzer 9 Peplowski 8 Guebert 3
I don't know if this was mentioned but only 8 turnovers against an elite defensive team is very good especially with all the new players playing significant minutes.
So add Monica Arens to the list of players lost from last year. The challenge becomes a little steeper but as long as the dynamic 3 freshman continue to look good the Coyotes can survive it.

Great effort by the Lady Yotes against the #1 team in the nation! SC is very tall, super fast/quick, can shoot and present a lot of problems defensively. They are legitimately #1. Their only unimpressive stat in the game was their 55% FT shooting.
Despite all of that USD matched them blow for blow except for the last 6 minutes of the 3rd Q when they went crazy extending their 6 pt lead to 20! And yet the Yotes cut the final margin to 10 with toughness and a never give up attitude both hallmarks of Dawn's teams!
Great job by everyone with special kudos to the 3 freshman who played very well in their baptism of fire!!!

Hard to overstate how impressive those performances by Korngable and Krull were in my opinion. If your main issue coming out of playing the No. 1 team in the country is “we need Chloe Lamb to make a couple more shots” I think you’re in spectacular shape because, well, she’s going to do that.
Tough to get too worried about the perimeter shooting because that team is going to make you shoot poorly, especially when you’ve got a bunch of kids who are going from playing high school games to playing All-SEC type defenders.
But again, if Korngable and Krull are playing with that kind of poise against THAT team the ceiling is very high for this squad.

Interesting to see how SC/Gonzaga shakes out. The Zags come in with almost their entire team back, so it won't take them too long to get things figured out or need to find people to step up. And I thought the Yotes tired out SC's post players, so they may be a step slower today. Per the ESPN mid-major preview: We know the WCC has a nationally relevant team. Gonzaga was likely going to host NCAA tournament games as a top-four seed a season ago. And while the Bulldogs weren't immune to the normal graduation attrition, they return the league's player of the year in Jill Townsend, two all-conference-caliber forwards in sisters Jenn and LeeAnne Wirth and add valuable 3-point shooting with grad transfer Abby O'Connor, an all-MVC selection at Loyola a season ago.

I was surprised yesterday that we didn’t see more of Hempe. Time will tell if that was a matchup situation, injury situation, or simply a Coach decision. Similar situation with Guebert, although she played more. Could’ve really used Mazurek’s size yesterday, although that would’ve been a tough spot for a true freshman in the post. Williston could’ve really helped if eligible. Liked Watson and Hanson’s game. Loved Krull’s game.
I was pleasantly surprised to be wrong about the starting point guard. The most surprising thing for me was that when Kunzer was in the game, she rarely handled the ball. So if she can’t play pg, how does she contribute? She isn’t really a shooter...so if you’re not a distributing pg, what is she?
We get very fortunate to have the day of rest. If we had to play today, I wouldn’t like our chances. I think we looked a bit tired in the 3rd which lead to that surge.

Similar situation with Guebert, although she played more. Could’ve really used Mazurek’s size yesterday, although that would’ve been a tough spot for a true freshman in the post. Williston could’ve really helped if eligible.... Here's Coach P's comments from the pregame interview on player availability: (I went back to listen to it again) "...Monica Arens will not be playing at this point in time. She had surgery. She's coming back from surgery. Her rehab is quite extensive, so she will not be available for us..." "...Aspen Williston, a transfer, will NOT be eligible to play for us." "...Today we will not have Natalie Mazurek available. I'm hoping that we can have her cleared to play on Monday ideally..." She mentioned Sankey, Hempe and Guebert at the end, after talking about all the players we would be likely to see getting minutes in the game. So I took that to mean that they are just farther down the line for playing time. I'm sure that is a dynamic thing, and probably depends on the opponent. It's possible they are a little dinged up, but Coach P didn't say that.

Because of the covid pandemic, I wouldn't be surprised if who is available game to game is a fluid situation. Depth will be extra important this season.
