They're just not going to be as good a 3-point shooting team as they've been. But they can't be 5-for-34 bad. A lot of new players and new roles. Give them a chance to develop some chemistry. To be the same team as last year in two games with no male practice players, 4 freshmen playing ranked teams in their first two games, not having fans, spacing on the bench and just adjusting to all the new safety measures is not realistic. They will be better with each game this year.

I completely agree. But they lost two of the best 3-point shooters in school history. They're just not going to be as good a perimeter shooting team this year. That's not a knock or anything else, it's just a simple fact.

Coach P said in the postgame Zags were clogging up the interior daring us to take perimeter shots which we weren't making. Yotes almost always had two FR on the floor and some times 3. Zags had 6 SRs to Yotes 3. Considering the competition the Yotes are playing well with only 1 starter returning from last year!! Just need more games to jell and get the 3pt shot touch back. Go Yotes!!

If by this you mean that we will still be a good team, have a really good season, and the conference title will be a toss up between us and State, then I would agree with that.
If it was in response to me saying that I don't think we'll have the auto bid to fall back on, then I don't think I'm as confident about that. It just doesn't seem like there is a lot of opportunity to build our resume this year. However, I do have hope that our success from the last few years might carry over to this year, where we won't have to build as good of a resume as what we've had to do in the past. It might be a situation where we are viewed as a tournament team unless we go out and prove otherwise, instead of the other way around.
I'm just really hoping we aren't in a position where we have to win the SLT in order to make the big dance. Last year we had a much better team than State and still barely pulled it out. This year the teams will be much closer to equal.
And with Dawn saying Gonzaga was daring us to shoot the 3, then I have to think we were getting some good looks. Which makes our shooting numbers even more worrisome. Obviously it's early, but I think Waterboy said it best, we aren't going to be as good of a 3 point shooting team as we have been. Hopefully it's not 5-34 bad (or whatever the numbers are) but we will be worse. Hopefully we are able to make up for it on the defensive end.

I realize you aren't directing this to me, but I wanted to put in my 2 cents anyway. Personally, I don't think we can really ever just assume that we are a shoo-in for an at-large bid, just because we were the Summit's preseason favorite. It's really hard to get that out of a mid major conference. It's only happened the one time, after all. Plenty of really outstanding Jack and Yote WBB teams have been relegated to the WNIT. It's good to elevate your expectations, and this team has done that year after year. But let's be real. They aren't giving those bids out like candy. I think you are right that we may have lost that opportunity by losing both these games. A better assumption for a fan might be that we will compete with the Jacks for regular season and SLT championships on a regular basis. Clearly the Jacks are once again fielding an outstanding team this year, so those 2 or three games with them will be difficult. A lot more difficult without Monica. Should make for some exciting games. Honestly, Although I'd like to sweep them again, I'm fine with just beating them in the SLT. As far as perimeter shooting, I think we can reasonably expect improvement from this young team. Dawn doesn't recruit very many players that can't hit arc shots. I think it's more of a confidence thing. That improves with experience. With Lamb, I'm puzzled. She should be hitting those shots. For her, maybe she is pushing too hard and forcing it, now that she has the pressure of leadership? Hard to know. So how long does it take for a freshman to gain that confidence? No idea.

I am puzzled with Hempe. Injured, beat out for minutes, what?

I feel like Lamb is a notoriously slow starter. So hopefully she gets in a groove soon.
I’m with Bob in that Hempe is a very curious case.

I think Lamb is just pressing a bit. She’s THE shooter now. That can turn the dial up on each shot. You feel like you have to make them instead of relishing the opportunity to make them if that makes sense.
My “they’ll be fine” comment was more in reference to that. She’s going to start making shots. Korngable is playing very, very well. Sjerven is Sjerven and the freshmen appear to be ready to go.
But yeah, I wouldn’t be banking on any automatic NCAA tournament bids. And like I’ve said from the get-go, beating State in any setting this year is going to be very difficult. They’re good. Like really good.

Well, as a State fan I didn’t see either game, but obviously very impressive to play SC as well as you did. Seeing two Mid-majors giving the #1 team in the country everything they wanted is very impressive. The Zags are very strong as well. It certainly would have been nice to pull out at least one of those, but shows that your team is very legit. Should be a great set of games between us this year. Hopefully the Summit tourney can be the crazy environment it normally is, but stupid virus...
