Game day. Our two teams’ scores vs South Carolina were very close. I’m guessing this will be a very close and highly contested and competitive game. Similar to when we play the Bunnies. We have the advantage of a day of rest, and a slight home court advantage (minus the fans). Maybe gopheryote could make a new multi-team trophy this year between USD/SDSU/Gonzaga? What might that be called....

Both played SC to a close final score, the glaring difference is Gonzaga was in it the whole game and lead for a period in the 2nd half. We will need to cut down on missed layups and FT today.

Here’s a clip from Coach Staley about the tournament:

Tons of fouling for the zags. They fouled a lot in the first game, too. One message board poster for Gonzaga mentioned that in the WCC it’s “no blood, no foul”. So they might be having a hard time adjusting to a different style of officiating?

28-16 at half. Only 10 points each in the 2nd. A turnover and foul-fest.
Woodiel thought the main difference in the 2nd quarter was Gonzaga starting to tighten up and adjust to an unpredictable motion offense.

Yikes- the shooting touch not quite there yet in these first 2.

Really let that one slip away. Learning experience, as Duffy & Mckeever aren’t walking thru that door to bail you out when the offense dries up. Lamb has been a slow starter in the past, and apparently still has that issue.

Well that was disappointing. Led by 18 in the first half, led by 7 after 3 and couldn't hold on. Wish I could have watched it. Why did Hannah only get 6 shots? We need to get her some more looks, especially when we are shooting as poor as we have been to start the season. We really need to do well in the rest of our pre conference schedule if we want to have an at large bid possibility to fall back on. Last year we pulled out a lot of close games early in the season. A few of them we were quite frankly a little lucky to have won. Those were key to helping us have an at large wrapped up heading into the SLT. As it turned out we didn't need it.
*I just looked at our schedule, it looks like we don't hardly have any more pre conference games. This kind of puts us in a position where we will probably have to win the SLT. With as weak as our conference is I don't know that it will be enough just to play a few good teams close. We won't get a chance to build on our resume in the conference like a lot of the power conference teams do. Hopefully our shooting comes around. We didn't even shoot FT's very well today. Looks like we had several turnovers in the final minute, without seeing the game I don't know what kind of turnovers we are talking about ie bad passes, pocket picked, etc.

They'll be fine. It's just going to take some time to replace the poise and production of over 4,000 career points when you factor the loss of Monica Arens into this whole equation. That Gonzaga loss will sting a bit but it's probably not the worst thing in the world for a coaching staff to work with.

Coach P said in the postgame Zags were clogging up the interior daring us to take perimeter shots which we weren't making. Yotes almost always had two FR on the floor and some times 3. Zags had 6 SRs to Yotes 3.
Considering the competition the Yotes are playing well with only 1 starter returning from last year!! Just need more games to jell and get the 3pt shot touch back. Go Yotes!!

One thing that jumped out at me was end of game, crunch time, and two freshmen, Krull and Watson were in. Another, and this goes for men and women, what's with the three point shooting? I can't imagine that will continue.

They're just not going to be as good a 3-point shooting team as they've been. But they can't be 5-for-34 bad.
