I don't even care that the Coyotes were fortunate to win. I am just happy to see a win over a good team, outside on the road. Any win regardless of how it happened is a good win today.

Bison fans have had their fare share of happy days but their football team lost to SIU in a blowout and on top of that both of their basketball teams lost to the Coyotes today. On the other hand the Coyotes picked up a big road win in football against a very tough opponent. Combine that with a basketball sweep of the Bison and it is a much better day to be a Coyote fan today.

Great hustle plays by Yote D to cause the TOs and the O did it's job scoring points. I was OK with prevent D with 1:45 left with them 85 yds away but really need to have a LB spy the QB so they can't get easy 30 yd runs to keep the drive alive. Way to hang in there D at the end!! Go Yotes!!!

Here’s a question. Do we win today without the outdoor artificial turf practice field? Seriously? In the past, they probably have to practice on a muddy mess outside that isn’t really safe, or inside and not acclimated to the weather. I realize today wasn’t frigid, but it also wasn’t same temps as the dome.

Any word on Cody Case? Didn't see him at all today. I did see later that he was listed in the participation list though.

I’m less concerned about how we won, the thing that stands out is “that we won” on the road against a playoff caliber team. Is there a lot to fix and a lot of maturity that needs to happen, absolutely, but in the end we saw them stay together and not go down the drain when ISU jumped up 17-0. I was there and saw NO head hanging, frustrations for sure. The defense gave the spark and the rest of the team rode the wave. That mental toughness is critical especially in the Missouri Valley. Great job to Coach Schlafke for keeping Carson Camp’s head in it because that’s a tough equation for a freshman.

Had a day to think about it now, so here are my thoughts on the game yesterday.
Offense: Carson Camp looked great for a true freshman. Moves around the pocket really well. One thing I think he can improve on right away is his reads on the option. He's not Strevy but I'd like to see him pull it and go a few times a game to keep that backside honest. The OL didn't really live up to the expectations I had for themi guess. They couldn't get the run game going the whole game, that really kept us from putting together any real drives. They also struggled in pass pro until we started keeping a RB in to help. WRs and TEs had plenty of drops yesterday but caught some tough ones as well. Outside of the surprising performance by the new QB1, there really wasn't too much to be thrilled with. First game though, they'll work out the kinks.
Defense It became apparent early on that the front 4 can't pressure the QB. The run defense was great all day IMO. Once we started sending some blitzes, good things started happening. Really happy with the TO margin. Defense forced some, others were really poor decisions by their QB. I thought the LB crew played well. Secondary really stepped up as the game progressed. The crazy thing is, there were several dropped picks as well.
Special Teams For whatever reason, I just knew that first FG attempt was going to net zero points. I could feel it when they lined up for it. After that, I was very happy with the special teams play. Punting was a real weapon for us yesterday. Couldn't get the run going to put drives together, but we were able to flip the field consistently all day.
Overall Happy to see a road win outside in the valley. Those have always been hard to come by. We took advantage of the situations we were put in and did enough to win the game. Plenty of things to clean up this week, but enjoy it for now.
Finally. Damn it feels good to be watching the yotes again!!! Thankful for that this morning.

Good assessment.
Our LBs held everything together for the defense. They are going to be a strength. However, we need to find a rush end. We cannot rely on blitzing our linebackers to produce a pass rush against better quarterbacks.
The DBs had an up and down game. The interceptions make it easy to forget that they were BURNED to the third degree multiple times. We'll need to clean that up.
Kai Henry has to be frustrated.
Brett Samson will have better days.
Most importantly, no injuries that I recall.

Henry looks the part, but does far too much dancing and runs so straight up that he gets tackled very easily. Theis runs angry and seems to always fall forward after contact. Jay Elsen called him a bowling ball on the broadcast.

If two teams are somewhat equal in talent then the results come down to one of three things. First is a little luck or good fortune. Secondly is coaching and which staff makes their players better. Lastly, and I’ve said this repeatedly on this board over the years is what’s going on in that locker room.
Never underestimate what a team that believes in each other and literally believes they are number one can do for the will of the team. This is only one game, I know. But from conversations I’ve had this team inside the locker room believes in one another and could give zero concern what the media says or what fan boards say. I don’t think our talent is heads and tails above most other teams in the league, but if we are on par with them then I give this squad a punchers chance to finish at or near the top. We have good coaches. We have the facilities. And if we have the heart and chemistry we are well on our way to good things.
Yes we got burnt on deep routes. That wasn’t good. And no our front four defensively couldn’t get through without blitzing. And yes Kai danced when he could’ve run. But THAT is fixable. We had 7 turnovers on the #7 team in the country on the road, and they were created through our effort. That wasn’t handed to us.
We have a shot. A decent shot. Regardless how Thursday turns out. If we win Thursday we are for real.

We fought hard and got the win, but not without a little luck.

Congrats on you win this past weekend. It's crazy we have a game already in only 3 days... As far as the schedule goes with the Thursday game, USD can somewhat blame the shorter week on Indiana State - the original schedule had you playing a home game vs UNI this past Friday, rather than at Illinois State on Saturday. valley-football.org/news/2020/9/24/missouri-valley-football-conference-announces-league-slate.aspxLooking forward to the game this week. Outcome is 50/50 imo, especially after you guys CLOBBERED us a year or two ago after we had another big win. Looking at the depth chart that was posted for the Illinois State game, it appears you guys have some BIG OL, so I'm surprised to see you guys comment about the lack of push up front. I think I saw someone mention the the LG was out (one of the big guys), was he injured during the game or will he be playing Thursday? With all of the turnovers both teams have generated thus far, it should be a fun game no matter who comes out on top. There is a lot on the line with all of the traditional powers having already lost a game!
