Just a thought about icing our kicker. Listening to the local Lawrence radio broadcast they said we had 12 men on the field. The timeout kept us from a penalty. I didn't count, but that was their take. I don’t know that for sure. What is for sure with the clock running down it was a kluster. I think we called it because it appeared we weren’t gonna get the snap off in time. It literally was a confusing last 2 seconds Just finished watching the game. Lorber took an eternity lining up for the kick. He had a solid 20 seconds on the play clock when he got out there. Hesitated a lot and then they snapped it with about a half a second left. I don’t think Bob wanted the 5 yard penalty after we’d already missed one FG. Then probably thought about how we had been moving it pretty well and decided to go for it. If we had just gone for it right away, the momentum was on our side of the LOS. Just a bummer we took those points off the board when it was an unforced error.

Two things, first regarding the FG decision and subsequent timeout. In the whole context, if that sequence had never happened, we may have never led in the game. It would have been tied 10-10 and the field position at that point would have been much different to put a TD on the board to go up. In the end, that sequence of events and the defenses stop put us in an advantageous position to lead 14-10 after the TD run by Theis. Second, Camp is struggling because the majority of pass plays are vertical shots, I call it being greedy. It is vitally important to gain confidence early in the game with high completion type passes, moving the chains and gaining first downs, and then ultimately start dialing up shot plays once the defense adjusts or the run game is working. He’s not a runner so teams can defend us with a 7 man box and don’t have to add an 8th defender. Get Camp in rhythm early!! He has arm talent, but the head isn’t there yet to match that ability. Create an easier path for him to develop confidence. It’s a simple adjustment by the offensive coordinator!

Well I will be going to my first game in 2 years. I hope the Coyotes show me a reason to buy more tickets throughout the year. I will care as much as the team does. I will admit they cared quite a bit the first game so I hope the effort carries on the entire season.

KU is keeping things interesting with Coastal Carolina. I'm not sure what that means for us, but it certainly means something. We'll find out tomorrow.
