... I figured Vegas would be making the ranked home team with a famous coach the favorites. Maybe they are learning their lesson on underestimating this team. We have beat the spread pretty easily in all 3 games this year. I doubt the opening lines are based on how famous the coach is. Oddsmakers don't like to lose money. They want lots of bets on both sides of the coin. We've now produced some very good stats, so it isn't that surprising. Arkansas and Louisville both finished seasons in the top 5 under Petrino. Arkansas and Louisville, not exactly perennial powers. Then he immediately turned Missouri St from a cellar dweller to 5-1 in the MVC last year and a good start this year. I would be surprised if who their coach is wasn't a factor at all in setting the spread.
I'll be interested in seeing if that spread moves at all. And I trust teamsd to keep us updated.

Spreads are based entirely on public perception. Vegas tries to best predict public opinion so that half the betting money is on each side, allowing the house to win every time. If Petrino's pedigree isn't taken into account it is because it is assumed by oddsmakers that the bettors don't consider it.
It can be fun to check out the lines but they are just not good indicators of what will happen on the field.

Checking through the news and notes about the game, it was interesting to see that Missouri State has 18 senior starters on offense and defense.

Game day roll call! Who else is too fired up to sleep any more? The real season starts today gentlemen. Let's go down to Springfield and give them the ass kicking they deserve. All game day traditions are in full force at our house this morning. The sun is coming up, the birds are chirping, cold one cracked and my neighbors are waking up to a beautifully shouted version of Fight South Dakota. Been in this house 3 years and nobody has complained yet lol.
Let's take care of business on the road and hand out another first half TKO. Make the voters look stupid for barely getting us into the "also receiving votes" category this week after absolutely abusing 2 teams from the other conference that is supposedly the closest competition to the MVFC.
My key for this one is to dial up the pressure on defense. They like to sling it around and have a bunch of FBS transfer guys to catch it. Make that QB uncomfortable early. On the offensive side of the ball, keep doing what you're doing. They like to think they have a world-beater run defense. Run it right into the teeth of it and let the big boys lean on em. Tell me more about your run stopping abilities after you contain all 4 of our guys averaging more than 5yds per carry.

It is on the ESPN app via ESPN3. Most ISPs will give you access to that (Midco, Vast, Comcast/Xfinity have worked for me over the years when I had them). I wondered aloud earlier why ESPN3 still exists. I'm guessing some contractual obligation is keeping it alive until ESPN can roll it into their Plus paywall. |

How about Dalton Godfrey being down there to recover the muffed punt? I'm pretty sure he is the most impactful long snapper in the conference. Would have scored too if the rule didn't prevent that.

Mobile QB made a lot of trouble for us on that drive. Just kept finding a way to extend plays until they had marched all the way down the field.
