This game could prove to be exactly what we needed going into the buzz saw ahead. Get a win at UNI, which is doable, and this team will have tons of momentum on their side. Im curious where, and even if, USD cracks the fcs top 25. Obviously we belong there, but maybe it’d be better they didn’t rank us? I’d love to see us ranked but right now we’re playing with something to prove. And another snub could help light an even bigger fire under the team the remaining games. I've given up trying to understand the FCS rankings. They don't credit strength of schedule enough. It's why there's always a couple top 10 teams from back east that draw a valley team in the first round and get throttled.

One thing that hasn't been talked about much is the special teams for the Coyotes. This area is vastly improved for a year ago or two. The punting and kicking has been excellent. Can you really ask for anymore than what Lorber has given the Coyotes. He has been money in both field goal kicking and kicking it into the end zone on kickoffs.

I would guess we come in at like 20th, but I agree with the other poster that they are garbage rankings. SOS is completely irrelevant to them and so the MVFC is always under represented. Edit: To back up this thought, we are at 8th in the Massey rankings and 13th in the Sagarin rankings. Here is how the Sagarin and Massey computers have the conference ranked: NDSU 1/2 SDSU 2/1 SIU 4/5 UNI 5/4 USD 8/13 MSU 11/12 UND 14/18 YSU 17/23 WIU 29/43 InSU 31/45 IlSU 33/42 Most of the FCS is miles away from our level of play, so I'm totally on board with a ranking that says the worst teams in the conference are 30-40th overall. These teams are still posting strong non-conference records after all.

The only ranking that really "matters" is the final one. We deserve to be ranked top 20, but i kind of want the disrespect to continue so our players can keep the chip on their shoulder. Get a win in CederLoo on Saturday and this train is rolling full steam ahead no matter what number is next to our name.

I want to be ranked so that more people show up to the games.

Coyotes also 21st in Stats poll too!
I agree that polls are very subjective, biased, controversial, etc. But they do generate discussion and increase fan interest and I dare say free publicity for the schools ranked and visibility for potential recruits.

It's a good to remember that there are a 128 FCS football teams. So to be in top 25 is significant and a good way to try and compare different conferences.
I think it's easy for fans to forget the large number of FCS, FBS, DII... teams vs the 32 NFL teams.

The coaches poll is also one of the criteria used by the FCS playoff selection committee
