Angie Nelp (Tulsa head coach)

An Okie who has elevated TU’s program.

Tari Cummings (Baylor Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator)

A former All-Big 12 Cowgirl is an upcoming coaching star, a homecoming could be in the cards.

Mark Kellogg (Stephen F. Austin head coach)

Mark Kellogg has never had a losing record. OSU has hired a coach from Stephen F. Austin before; it didn’t last long.

Katrina Merriweather (Memphis head coach)

A bright coach Katrina Merriweather led Wright State to two NCAA Tournament appearances in her tenure and is now at the reins of Memphis. She won the Horizon league three times in five years.

Amy Mallon (Drexel head coach)

It won’t be easy to pry Amy Mallon from Drexel made the NCAA Tournament in her first head coaching year and is 24-4 this season.

Erin Dickerson Davis (Wake Forest associate head coach)

She landed the highest ranked recruit in Wake Forest history since 2014, 2021 No. 60-ranked Raegyn Conley.

Erika Lambert (Abilene Christian associate head coach, recruiting coordinator)

Sometimes the best candidates aren’t the obvious ones. Abilene Christian has been on the rise, Erika Lambert is a big part why.

Lindy La Rocque (UNLV head coach)

As one of the youngest DI coaches she led one of the youngest squads to a second place finish in the Mountain West in her first year in 2020-21. She also won conference coach of the year.

Vernette Skeete (Texas A&M co-associate head coach)

Her career skyrocketed at Marquette, and she’s had a year to learn from legendary Gary Blair.

Billy Fennely (Iowa State assistant coach)

He assists his dad in Ames but could beat him as a Cowgirl coach.

Brooke Wycoff (Florida State associate head coach)

When Sue Semrau took a year off, Wycoff stepped in and led Florida State to the NCAA Tournament.

Dionnah Jackson-Durrett (Texas Associate head coach)

She’s a former Sooner but a dynamic recruiter.

Shannon LeBeauf (UCLA associate head coach)

Shannon LeBeauf has recruited more top 100 players in 11 years with the Bruins than OSU has in its history.

Kate Popovec (Northwestern associate head coach)

Kate Popovec could be the second defensive coordinator Oklahoma State has hired this year.

Doug Gottileb (Fox Sports)

He’s wanted an OSU basketball coaching gig before, here’s an opening.

Not nearly enough experience. 5 years coaching experience, and all of it under the same coach she played for. Amber has ties that might make Vermillion attractive (former player, from Crofton, her mother still teaches at USD, spouse is from Australia so this is the only family to raise one of their own around, and I think I even saw Amber in Wichita on the TV broadcast), but at this point she is only coming back if it is as an assistant under a new head coach.

Who knows where Dave is looking right now?  I wouldn't say there are any "obvious" choices.  We will have to wait and see what comes out of the rumor-mill...

I think we go back to the winning strategy from last time. Hire a sitting D1 coach who has already proven themselves capable. If we go after an assistant it has to be a no brainer hire, or maybe internal continuity. We don't need to settle for anyone here. The investment in facilities, salaries, fan support, consistent success, etc. all make the USD job one that is substantially more attractive than most of D1.

YES!  This is the type of person we are after.  Someone who has had success at the D-1 can recruit and knows what it takes to be at the level the Coyotes wish to remain at and go above.. Nice find!

Kayla (Tetschlag) Karius is another interesting one. Played for Kevin/Dawn at Green Bay, 4 years pro experience, 2 years assistant at USD under Dawn (and lead recruiter). Since then, three years assistant at Wisconsin, last year as asst HC. Then one year asst. at Drake, as recruiting coord.

positives = has taught Dawn's system and recruited to USD before, has been coaching and recruiting in the Midwest for 8 years, exposed to P-5 and two high-level mid-majors. Young and energetic.

negatives = no previous head coaching experience. (that's a big one)

I'd be fine with this hire. At this point, I would rank coaching under Dawn as highly as I would rank head coaching experience.

Mandy Pearson

- Positives: in her 7 years at Duluth WBB 2016-2022, she has taken them to the top of the conference, winning the NSIC tournament in 2019, 2021, 2022, and winning the last 3 north division titles. Her defense and turnover ratios (both creating and not committing) are tops in Division 2, so even if she does it differently, that is still the same character of team we have. She is relatively young by NSIC standards (graduated college in 2004).

-Negatives: her experience playing (Concordia Moorhead) / coaching/ recruiting has all been in the Minnesota Region (maybe good, maybe bad), and at lower levels (no D-1 assistant experience)

That's a good find, too!  2021 Division II Coach of the Year.  Her 7 years shows an upward trajectory.  The MIAA and the NSIC are the two best D-II conferences in the country.

Not to be the anti-home grown talent but we need to be semi realistic here. Some of the names mentioned (while excellent former stars) do not have the experience. We are a quality job, that unfortunately pays not well, so we need a coach who is proven in either the upper ranks of D2 or D1.

Herbster if you’re reading I also suggest we start opening the checkbook a bit more this round. Not to bag on the FB program but if Nielsen can be making close to 300k and has had far less success then Dawn, then she should’ve been at the 300 mark too.

Not saying the new coach deserves what dawn did imo but it’s clear we’ve gotta start paying more if we want quality coaches to consider us and stay.
