Congrats to Dawn on West Virginia, but now onto our next coach.
Who does everyone think will be our next head coach?
Does Jason Jeschke have a shot at it?
Could we lure some current head coaches away from their school like we did with Dawn at Northern Kentucky? Or find an up and coming assistant?
One name I want to throw out is Kayla Karius (Tetsclag). She coached here with Dawn for a few years, then left for Wisconsin, and is now at Drake.

Let's go get Kim Stephens from Glenville State. D2 National Champion, young, hungry, great coach. That's what we need to be looking for.

Lavin, Amy, Dawn. Concerned but not overly worried as I feel the program has grown to the point of success and support where USD can attract a quality head coach to keep the success rolling.

IIRC, our WNIT championship was mentioned by Dawn when we hired her. Thinking a Sweet 16 run (plus Dawn’s other many accomplishments here) should generate even more interest from aspiring coaches.

Tough day coyote fans... I figured it was gonna happen but dammit it sucks. Dawn definitely left the program in a better place than it was when she first got here, which a lot of us didn't know would happen when Amy left.
I think the program has had enough sustained success that we should be able to attract a quality coach and keep things moving in the right direction. The question is, what do you look for? This is a much different scenario than the MBB situation. WBB doesn't need a culture change, they recruit well, have won multiple championships, etc. We definitely don't want to reinvent the wheel here. Can we just get a carbon copy of Dawn? Are any of the assistants on her staff ready to take over?
I'm not sure I want "young and hungry" here. I want somebody with a history of success at the D1 level. Somebody that can take what Dawn has built and complement that, not try and shake it up. Whoever it is needs to keep the group together and not start losing girls to the portal.

I went to her introductory press conference, and Dawn did make a big deal about the WNIT title. Who wouldn't want to take over a program that is supported so well that it is able to constantly "punch above its weight"?

How about Amber Cunningham? Many here may remember her as Amber Hegge. She is a former Yotes player who has been an assistant for Colorado State for the past 5+ years.

These are all good points. I’d add that recruiting this region is critically important for this program. I’d love to see a coach that already has experience recruiting in the upper Midwest.

The problem with this is that we aren't going to find a quality coach that fits your description willing to take the salary we'll pay them.

I would be thrilled to bring Amber Hegge back to the U. One of the greatest Coyote womens basketball/athlete in USD history. Assistant under a very good coach in Ryan Williams. Local kid, played overseas. Then add Chloe to the staff, and to me that’s a slam dunk!! Or Mandy Koupal who was an assistant with Ryun Williams

Coach hasn't made the program, whether it was Lavin to Williams to Williams to Plitzuweit ... and that won't change. She is a great coach who also hit a home run in the job and players she walked into. Next season was going to be an adjustment period no matter what. Now it's just going to be a bit more of one. Whoever takes over has some nice pieces in the cupboard and a brand that has never been stronger. Everything will be fine.

My concerns with Kim is that the MEC is just not that strong of a conference in DII.. Perhaps I am wrong but the level of success that she has had could be related to the competition she has been use to playing against. Does anyone else have any insight on the MEC as a conference? I believe we need to focus on someone who has proven to be a strong recruiter and rest will fall in place. Just looking at the last 40 years of champions for D2 woman's basketball, I can't find one team beside the recent that has won a National Championship that is from the MEC. However, I just skimmed and realize that some teams could have joined other conference since...

Found this on the MEC news..
It was a victory of historic proportions for Glenville State. It was the program’s first national championship in the DII era, as well as the first DII women’s basketball champion to come out of the Mountain East Conference
