Strictly an observational guess here, but Ty Margenthaler sure seems to be Twitter liking everything Coyote related recently. Good catch! He even has a Wikipedia page: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ty_MargenthalerLooks like some extensive assistant coaching experience in Wisconsin, Illinois and Missouri. And a little HC experience, too. Ty Margenthaler's Twitter bio now says he is an assistant coach at USD. So I would expect an announcement soon.

As for her name/moniker/nickname... I'm sure whatever her players call her will be what is commonly used by the media/ fans/ message board people. So it might be:
Coach Kayla Coach Karius Coach K Coach 'Kar' Coach 2K KTK Coach "Hey you" Her Majesty The Coach Formerly known as Tetschlag
...or whatever.
In the meantime, I like Coach K. It's easier to type.

I was just having some fun with the Coach K reference, sort of. I was never a fan of the original Coach K or the team that he coached.

While we wait for an official announcement on assistants, here's some info on Ty: Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ty_MargenthalerSt. Louis Bio: www.slugirlsbasketballcamps.com/coaching-staff.cfm#:~:text=Ty%20Margenthaler%20is%20in%20his,works%20with%20SLU's%20post%20players. He has coached or assistant coached for 23 years, most of it in the St. Louis - Peoria, IL - Madison WI area. He likely has strong recruiting contacts in this region (Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri). I'll assume he has some extensive player development background as well. Looks like he has been a top assistant under Coach Lisa Stone in two separate stints, at Wisconsin and St. Louis (she also coached at Drake in the past). His head coaching record isn't stellar, but just the fact that he has that experience is huge, I think. Truly a veteran coach. recent quote tweet:

Nice. Here's a quote from the article: That's encouraging. Looking at his recent rosters at St Louis, he recruited the Chicago and St Louis Metros heavily, with some from KC, Milwaukee, Des Moines, and some smaller towns in Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, and Illinois. Also a few more east in Mich, Indy and Kentucky. He originally recruited Evan Zars out of KC (transfered to WIU). He had a longtime player (Myia Clark) from St. Viator HS in Chicago (same as Joy Bergstrom).

Looks like Margenthaler was already wearing Coyote gear the recruiting trail this weekend.

Both were out recruiting since late last week. Just hadn’t been officially approved by the state so they could announce.

Impressive resume! We seem to have a lot of former recruiting coordinators on our staff, both men’s and women’s!

I like that Kayla assembled her staff from various places. She chose coaches that have a little bit different experience, both with recruiting and with coaching style. That is how you reach the most girls. And especially since she is new to the head-coaching ranks, these coaches she has brought in can let her develop and implement her own style, but have the experience to help as she learns.

Talked to the Valpo AD this morning. He said when Gabby left for an assistantship at a Big East school (Butler) that it was a natural progression for her goal of a D-1 Head job someday. Unfortunately she picked a bad Big East team, and paid the consequences. He says she is a great 'get' for absolutely any program.

Really liking the staff Coach has assembled here. Great recruiting experience and a good range of different areas and approaches. We're a couple good portal adds away from looking very solid next season in my opinion. Let's go get them! Go Yotes!
