Our roster makeup and Bouman's strengths beg for a pro style offense with lots of one or two tight end sets, motion, and zone blocking. I'm no coach though. I’m not sure Bouman is good enough to change the whole identity of the offense…. They have a talented group coming thru that was recruited with RPO/Spread in mind (our make up is not pro-style)… if they blow up everything because of Bounan’s skill set you see an all time record of Transfer portals from one team Maybe that's not the worst thing. Whatever they've been doing obviously isn't working. I was on board with cleaning house and starting over but it appears that ship has sailed. The next best thing for me is bring in an OC that blows up the offense and rebuilds it. |

We lacked experience the last two years playing mostly freshman and redshirt freshman…i think we are solid at each position. We went through a qb change and a OC change in the middle of the season versus the most difficult schedule in FCS. If Bob gets a decent hire at OC and can keep the experienced players out of the portal I think we could have a solid year next year. |

Sad to say this, but Wesley Eliodor going in may be the tip of the iceberg. Gut feeling we will see a handful of our top offensive skill guys go with him. Hope I’m wrong.

He's a grad transfer from Florida (I think). I wouldn't put to much stock in that one as an indicator of what's to come.

We will see, these are interesting times. Grad or not it was an All Conference player that finally got some activity in the offense.

There's like 1700 players in the transfer portal. Not all of them will find homes. In fact, with the extra COVID year there is a flut of players and things are very clogged up. I'd tread lightly about entering the portal if I were a player. For programs, it's a lot of players to choose from. The portal is hitting most teams right now, some have a dozen or more in the portal.

Eliodor is someone in the right position to move. Already got his degree, see if you can get someone to help pay for your master's in a new setting. Life is the experiences you have. Go find a new one before moving onto the next stage in life. Bonus points if you get to play some football while you're at it.
Any departures will be magnified by the turmoil. I expect we won't know many of the names in Fall camp, but that may just be the norm now. Could be a positive or negative depending on your situation. Wait and see what the next several months have in store for us here.

I feel better about the portal than I probably should. Eliodor was probably one of the worst offensive losses we could take and he's not that irreplaceable. Carter Bell's girlfriend is on the soccer team, so he's safe. I don't know if any of our other offensive players have enough film to standout in the portal unfortunately.
For the defense, I'm most worried about Myles Harden, but otherwise I think the guys love playing for Johansen.
Time will tell. Maybe the new OC will bring a player or two with him.

I'm getting concerned we haven't heard more about the OC search at this point. Early signing is 2 weeks away and I would assume the new OC will want to bring some of his own guys with him. I hope so anyway.
Anybody have an insider scoop here yet?

Makes sense, but also a risk to recruiting to wait for a guy whose season is still going on. Hopefully its worth the wait.

I mean, if they are waiting, I'll assume they already have a yes, just a wait on announcement. In those situations the recruits are probably told something. I doubt they would just wait for the opportunity to maybe talk to someone about the job. Everything is done behind the scenes these days. |
