I do not understand why so many people are making this an issue. My sense is so many of you have issues with Coach Nielsen and look for reasons to criticize him. I understand completely last season was a bust. As a former player and one actively promoting and supporting Coyote athletics, there’s no one that wants to win more than myself. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. 2022 was awful and mistake filled. But for whatever reason that’s not been given, Bob was extended or so it is said. Even if he hadn’t been he had a contract through 2023. So he’s our coach and I fully support him and the decisions he makes.
So many of you are so quick to judge or write a post that I feel hurts and sets back the program. I know for a fact we had (2) coordinators coming but before they could get to Vermillion, one was offered a huge promotion at a FBS school, and the other was named a head coach at a well known D-2 school. This says to me he identified great talent but circumstances set in. In other words $hit happens. Bobs role as head coach is to hire / fire coaches that will enhance or hurt the program. It’s not a race. His job is to identify and hire the best coach available. This banter of why he hadn’t named one by now doesn’t affect our program one iota. We signed every kid but one ( and that is a higher number than average years ). The next signing date is in February. My guess is whoever we hire will be criticized by many.
We have a coordinator committed to USD. Bob will announce when he feels the time is right. I don’t know who it is but I in fact do trust Bob to make the right hire. I suggest we start supporting this program in a positive light instead of finding fault with everything. Do I agree with everything Bob, or any coach for that matter does? No, but I don’t coach. I have to trust the process. Bob knows how to win championships. Please give your unconditional support to him and staff through the 2023 season, and if in November 30th of next year it’s been a train wreck, then we make the move to make a change. Until then, Bobs our guy and these players and recruits are our team. We can and will win.

Respectfully - I don't know how someone on a message board, anonymously most likely, venting frustration 'hurts or sets back the program'. I absolutely love the Yotes. From football to softball. But does that mean I can't vent frustrations here? I get annoyed by excessive negative comments as much as the next person, but I get it. Sometimes a guy just needs to vent. Doesn't mean any of us our secretly hoping the Dome burns down. Doesn't mean anyone is withdrawing their support financially or otherwise. I fail to see how questions of why this has taken so long aren't a little justified. It's been open essentially since Sept. Maybe there is 100 legit reasons why, but questioning it doesn't seem too out of left field to me. We won 3 games. We will announce our OC, signing day #2 will come, transfers will sign, Spring practice will begin and this board will be full of hope and dreams of having to book hotels in Frisco. The natural flow of fandom IMO.

IMO, I would be more concerned if people weren't questioning decisions made within the program, it would mean nobody cares. Blind allegiance after a 3 win debacle of a season would be alarming. If it isn't over the line ethically or directly attacking a player or coach, why can't people be critical, or in this case inquisitive about decisions or lack thereof.
Plus, there's nothing else to talk about involving Coyote football right now. Sometimes we get too sensitive around here.

The natural flow of fandom IMO. Sincerely I don’t think you were or have been disrespectful. I know when I posted what I did I’m subject to criticism and I’m ok with that. Maybe I did a poor job of articulating how I feel. I will tell you that recruit parents do indeed read this board and that is known because of communications they have with staff. Secondly, and earnestly trying to be respectful myself, there have been posters on here that have made comments about reducing or entirely dropping the amount of financial support they currently give. Here’s my position. I believe someone awhile back said something to the effect of defending Bob because we had become friends. The truth of the matter is we are friends but just as big of truth is that I will always put the best interest of the athletic department / individual sport above the friendship. It has to be that way. When AD Herbster said at a post game press conference that Bobs contract either had been or will be extended, I was as surprised as anyone. But then you think about it sorta made sense. Bob had one year remaining on his contract, and say what you want, our athletic department is in no position to buy him out. And knowing that a “lame duck” coach kills recruiting with many, Herbster, on his own, made the announcement. And he had to know upfront it was going to disappoint a lot of fans, especially after getting our butts handed to us by UNI. But in Herbster’s estimation he felt it was in the best interest of the overall program and direction we need to take it, to make it then. Right or wrong, it was done. I earnestly feel Bob is the right guy to head our program. He has integrity, experience, and never will be an embarrassment to the school. Do I think there’s some things he needs to change? Yes, I’m no different than you. But I’m also not in that office either. I do know some promises that were made to him prior to accepting the job that weren’t delivered. I was privy to that conversation. But the reality to every coaching job is overselling your institution. Bob can deal with it but it slows the progress down. If we act and fund the program as I think it should be funded, we’ll be in the hunt nearly every year. That means they need additional fund raising from the Howling Pack or Coyote Brotherhood or any other way to secure those funds. Plus we need to sell tickets. Lots of tickets. Let’s be honest, even when we won, we had trouble getting 5000 people at a game. The playoff game against Southern Illinois comes to mind. In closing I know we’re all fans. And critiquing the coach and staff is reasonable, but I think there should be an element of encouraging discussion as well. Success breeds success. It’s going to have to come one step at a time. I will continue supporting this program irregardless of who the coach is. The university is what I support. Pay attention for press releases late this afternoon. You’ll know who the new OC is.
