Old coaching adage: less then 10-point margin, coaching factored in, 10 to 20 points, coaching might have influenced the outcome, 20 points or more talent differential is the main factor. Accept it, they're at this year where we were at last year and we're basically starting from scratch. Dawn did great things while here, but she did not leave this program in a good place.

This makes 2 games that I quit following by halftime this week. This one and TCU/Georgia. I istened to it on radio. A total embarressment. Here's hoping that they can simply forget this game, look forward, and get on with the season. There isn't anything to be learned by re-hashing this. If I'm the coach, we're not even looking at the film of this game.

You can make all the excuses you want to but there was no defense at all out there. The last 4 coaches we had knew how to coach defense. Giving up 17 3 pointers shows no adjustment during the game.

If you cannot individually guard anybody it doesn’t matter how many adjustments you make. Scrambling is scrambling.

If I'm the coach, we're not even looking at the film of this game. I disagree with you on the game film. I think these kids need to watch it to see how defense is played. They'll either respond or they won't. The bottom line is we hardly guard individually or as a team. The game in Vermillion might get just as ugly if things don't change on that end of the floor. That would not be good. If I'm the coach I don't play anyone who puts in such little defensive effort. Defense and rebounding are 75% effort.

I don't disagree about gaps in scheme, defensive commitment, etc., but we are playing/starting players that weren't supposed to be on the floor this season. When Grace picked up her 2nd foul early in the 1st quarter, the team on the floor was largely who should have been the garbage-time squad, not the 1st quarter squad.

You aren't wrong and I forget about the injuries at tunes, but it is still damn frustrating. We'll be better next year for it though. Youngsters facing live bullets.

Honest question. Has the wbb account tweeted out that injury report before? I haven't seen it. Could have missed it. Odd if that was the first time.
Jacks are just more experienced, vertically gifted and talented at the moment. Hard to watch but I hope they remember how it felt to get absolutely steamrolled. Use it.

Did it bother anyone else that A.J. Did not pull his starters until State was up by 59 in the 4th quarter?

Well, as I said earlier in the week, I feared this was a REALLY bad matchup. Did I think it would be 59 points? No, but I thought it would be 30-40. I would have been thrilled at covering the 15.5 line.
Going from 30-40 to 59 was a perfect storm, IMO. Jacks shot lights out. Most of their threes were wide open due to athletic/size mismatches that forced defensive help, but that doesn't always mean you will shoot 17-32 from deep. And let's just say the whistle wasn't friendly - I'm not sure Grace committed more than one foul. They had nine players available and they went into the final quarter with four starters having four fouls. Not sure I've ever seen that before. Ending the game with five (or even four) players was actually in play. And yes, smaller and less athletic players do foul more, but a little less foul trouble and a little less success from deep and the score may have looked more like the games the Jacks played against ND teams the prior week.
That said, the Jacks are clicking. They only won by 10 at St. Thomas, but they just thumped what may be their three closest competitors by averaging 106 ppg. They have a 6th-year senior who is the best player in the conference and multiple other talented, experienced players. They probably have the best two point guards in the conference (Gylten/Meyer). It's stunning that ORU played them so close at the beginning of the conference season.
I don't see how it's possible to evaluate the coaching staff this season. All they can do is stay positive. The games this week are important. I don't see them winning both but if they do that would put them in the driver's seat to finish 2 or 3. Let's see if they can bounce back.
I did hear that it's possible that Ugofsky has played her final game. Maybe if her injury heals some she will give it another shot later. Just been playing with a ton of pain.

Not a huge fan of it. I guess they did tweet out the starters first, but I didn't think that was needed before that particular game.

AJ (A Jerk) is real big on himself and the Yotes have been a big thorn in his side the last several years! He also remembers when the Lady Yotes beat him in the SCSC by 40 a while back.
He loves being a big fish and won't challenge himself by moving up.

I’d imagine Johnston and a couple of his players still remember that game from a few years ago. But I’m also of the mind that you always kick the shit out of your rival when given the opportunity and don’t whine about it when it’s your turn.

I have to admit I was more perturbed by Karius benching Larkins on fouls 3 and 4 like it was a normal situation and not the kind of blowout that you weren’t “saving” your best player for crunch time for.
