1. Summer meal plans for our athletes we ask to stay and work out.
2. Increased funding for travel. Eliminate as many of the long bus rides as we can. Helps recruiting. Our neighbors to the north take more charters.
3. Dedicated weight room staffer for BB only. Right now we have less than bare minimum. Not a good situation.
4. Dedicated staff for mental health for entire department. Roughly costs $500,000 annually. Minimum. Growing need today. Be divided among all sports
5. Video coordinator and creative contents staffer. $50k annually
6. More “buy in” games to get legit D-1 schools to play us in Vermillion instead of NAIA schools
7. Increase training table opportunities.
There’s more but it’s a start

A lot of fair points out there, but I’d say it’s 50/50 on whether or not this season hurts us long term and it’s too early to know. At this point our goal is make sure our recruits maintain their commitments and that we don’t have anyone transfer out. Right now if you’re being offered by sdsu and USD I’m sorry but they’re going to consider SDSU more. I hope Kayla is the right one for the job, I really do. But your first season is about building relationships and buy-in to your culture regardless of the outcome. We’re towards the end of that crucial first year and this team still does not have that. I also agree on the funding portion; why we still think we can only pay $150k (I assume that’s her starting, idk tho) as a d1 school for a quality basketball coach is idiotic esp when we shell out 300k for a 2/7 winning season FB coach. *edit she makes $240k per open SD website

The thing with recruiting in women's basketball is that it's so far into the future that it's tough to see an immediate impact. Kayla's first recruit won't set foot on campus until next summer. All three 2023 recruits that verballed under Dawn did sign last fall, so that is good. SDSU already has their 2024 class verballed, barring other roster movement. Five SD players, at least two of which verballed before Dawn left. Kayla's immediate recruiting involves retaining current players, and that started the day she was hired. Great points. I'd say that we might get an immediate impact from currently injured players that return from medical redshirts next year, especially Grange. She was really hitting from the arc well when she went down with injury.

I can't see hiring a coach at the D1 level who has never been a head coach and pay 240,000 a year. Several key injuries but this year has been an embarrassment and will set back recruiting a ton.

Embarrassing for who?
You lost all your starters and coaches and returned less than 10 points per game.
Anybody who thought this season was going to be much better than this (especially after all the injuries to the kids who were returning/new) needed a clue before the season ever started.

That's a little overdramatic, IMO. This was already set up to be a challenging year. Add in the rash of injuries and is it really that shocking to be sitting at 7-6 in conference play? I really don't believe the narrative that this will necessarily be a devastating blow from a recruiting standpoint.

It’s very easy to project your emotions as a fan onto high school recruits, but, in reality, current season performance is just one factor among many others. Recruits are looking at past and present performance and how it projects for their 4-5 years as well as if they like the coach, their potential teammates, the facilities, the school, the town, the available majors, their parents opinion of the school/program, etc. The factors that have helped us to perform well in the major women’s sports recently are all still pretty much unchanged. We should all be a ways away from hitting the panic button yet.

We have 3 very good players coming in next year and one of the better players in Wisconsin coming in 2024. We have a ton of offers out there for the next 4 classes. We have one very good freshman who was injured this year who will be back next year. Add a 3 veteran players who could be back next year the talent will be very good. Losing the 2 players to the portal and injuries made for tough season but we will be back

just a reminder to a few.....being a mid-major, if you have a coach/staff that can recruit and win with those recruits, there is a bigger school ($$$-wise) waiting to pounce. especially if you take the two SD school's to heights we have seen in the past few years. no matter coyote fans thoughts of AJ, State has been blessed he has stayed. who knows, maybe in the future he decides to give the "big time" a shot. however, i see him staying in Brookings for a number of years yet-if not the rest of his career. he has it pretty good there. i think one job he may have given serious consideration to is the minny job when it was open. my cousin who lives in minny told me at the time "no way they give it to AJ, they want a woman coach". excuse me, no doubt he was on his way to Green Bay, but, on the way, his heart was telling him something else. i think his situation is pretty rare for a mid-major. you achieve the type of success the State and U coaches have obtained, it's a pretty good bet they will move on. just life as a mid-major. i hope the U (and, i believe they will) and not to mention other Summit schools can achieve more success. it will only enhance the Summit.
being a mid-major is more than often a stepping stone.

Alright y’all, it’s game day. I’m guilty of getting off topic in this thread but we’ll have plenty of time in a few weeks to bicker and argue this if we want. Let’s not give state the satisfaction of the fan base fighting over the kids on rivalry day.
All my thoughts aside I hope we go out there and knock the jacks back from their perfect summit season.
