A game like this could happen to any team. For the past two seasons, it happened to the Jacks, in Vermillion…. They even got beat by Omaha at the Falls two years ago…. Is anybody saying that AJ is a horrible coach because that happened? No. They had an experienced coach and team, and they just had a bad game. Yes, this team is inexperienced, yes, this coach is new. They will get better, they will have a better season every year if / when they have experienced talent that is not sitting on the bench with injuries. This team has been competitive in a lot of games this year, and to be honest, they won more games than many of you expected at the beginning of the season. Give them a chance. You claim to bleed red, it’s time to prove it by supporting your team in the hard times. We will and do support them. It's just not the level of play we've seen the last 10 years and it's hard to accept. Our standards are probably a bit unreasonable but most of us understand this year was going to be a transition. My real struggle is the lack of accountability we're witnessing. Past teams have held themselves and teammates accountable and they truly played FOR each other. Then again, many of those girls played together for years. We will have better days. If you expected the same level of play as recent years with no returning starters and a team ravaged by injuries . . . Yeah, I'd say that's unreasonable and unrealistic. There will be much better days ahead. I have no doubt. State is just a really difficult matchup for this particular team right now.

I’m not gonna lie it’s really hard to “bleed red” when one of only 2 programs that’s had success in over a decade bleeds out in front of you. True Yote fans have been bleeding red through alot of crappy seasons now for years, WBB was finally the one that we’d caught the jacks and made it ours.
I don’t see next year being much better either unless a lot of growth happens on all fronts and people step up to lead the team. Let’s face it right now they haven’t shown much growth through this adversity and we are just fundamentally bad.

One other complaint I have is lack of ball pressure defensively. But part of the problem is that is by design with some players, as there are multiple players that are not quick enough to guard closely on the perimeter, and there is no rim protection either. But that lack of ball pressure leads to easy entries into the paint and puts them on their heels.

Big picture comment...by the end of this year I was hoping I would be confident that the Yotes would be at SDSU's level in 2023-24. But I'm afraid that we will have to postpone that at least a year. The Jacks will no doubt take a hit in losing Selland, as well as Burckhard and Gylten. But Theisen looks like a first-team Summit player next season. She was a top-100 recruit in high school and she's now a couple years out from a major injury. Brooklyn Meyer is going to be a major problem as well in the post. On the perimeter, Timmer may be a first-teamer as well. And I think Paige Meyer will be a POY favorite next fall.
For the Yotes, there has to be some general internal improvement with the players who made it through the year. We've talked about just the value of having experience playing college basketball, and knowing (or learning, sometimes painfully) what it takes. That's valuable.
But they will need some external improvement as well. How much will they get from Bergstrom and Grange and will they be ready at the start of the season? Will Mazurek improve enough to be a starting-level post? Will any of the freshmen be impact players? Klosterbuer looks good, but I'm not smart enough to know if she's a difference-maker. Broughton is highly-decorated but is coming off two ACL injuries and may be better off redshirting a year. Kieffer is talented but really struggled in a matchup against STM and Reese Ross.
I think I'm confident they will be better next year. How much better will go a long ways to answering the question of how long it will take to return to competing for a Summit title.

Hard to pressure on the perimeter when the player you're guarding is quicker and can beat you off the dribble. As for the second complaint usually if a player is being posted up by an opponent four to five inches taller, it just might lead to problems with post defense. A team could double down, but a savvy post player should be able to find a teammate open on the perimeter for an uncontested three which might lead to further complaints about perimeter defense...

Well, my second sentence said it was partly by design. And the second complaint is related to the first.
