I’m not personally sad about it. She had big shoes to fill here after Dawn but imagine the shoes she has to fill now in Green Bay.
I’d be fine with Mike and I’m fine on Thiess from Mankato. Both have the experience that we need for this program. For the love of all things USD though please hire someone who knows how to coach defense.

Or someone that has a 6'4"+ post on their roster with a few years of eligibility left. Damn I miss watching Hannah Sjerven.

Need to hire Jewett. End of story. I'd also be fine with that hire. We can openly say it now, but the team was just plain better when he was running things while Kayla was on leave.

My next question though is if she knew she was leaving how did we land the transfers and recruits that we did? The timing of things seems odd.

Hire someone who will stay here. With the changing face of college athletics, meaning NIL money, portal transfers, athletes staying a year or two instead of a career, I look at the coach as who I get behind and cheer for. Our level offers a lot more stability than the power conferences which should be appealing to the right coach. At least I hope it is.

In all seriousness, yes please. It looks like Emilee Thiesse has been at MSM for a while. Jewett would also be very likely to stay put.

Ok Mr. new athletic director, you better knock this one out of the park. Keep coach Jewett who knows what it takes in recruiting and how to win in the Summit. Really loved the way the Yotes played in the WNIT before the Wyoming game.

Ryun left for what was, at the time a far superior program (we had been better since then for 8 seasons under Amy and Dawn). Amy left for her Alma-Mater and a P-5 program in Nebraska. If you recall, she was reluctant to leave and forced them to make a second offer. If we ignore the WVU year, Dawn ended up at another Big 10 school closer to her home state. Kayla is going back to her Alma-mater, in her home state. So basically all of these coaches are going to a “dream job” situation. I think either Mike or Emily are both coaches who call this state and region home, and have played and coached here their entire careers. Emily has ties to Spearfish, Kearney, SDSU, Drake and Mankato. Mike has a similar geographical profile. I think we would be looking at some stability with either.

I agree. I really liked Kayla, because of how she had worked with and developed my daughter in the past. I know she has what it takes, but for whatever reason the fit was not right at this time, maybe with these players, who knows. I wish her great success at Green Bay. That being said, I really like what Mike Jewett brought to the program as well, and how he relates to and works with the players. I think he’s a strong but quiet leader, with good in-game strategy. However, I also think that Emily Theiss would be a home run hire. I hope they go forward with one of these two, or both, because that would be very exciting to watch.
