Turning the page to valley play. This will be our first real test and measuring stick of the season. Personally, I'm expecting a 2-3 score victory, but we had a nasty habit of making games close last year that we should have been able to open up.

Last year's game was an absolute nail biter. Incredible defensive stands to seal it on the road. Would be nice to get a comfortable win to kick off MVFC play and help everyone feel forward momentum.

We have a ranked opponent coming in this weekend and all the discussion is about hypothetical conference realignment. Been reading some game notes and it seems like they want to lean on that backup QB to try and win the game through the air. After watching the SEMO game, if our pass rush can get home it will be a long day for SIU.

Not to downplay our opponent, because they could still be tough, but I thought SIU was a little overrated coming into the season before their starting QB got hurt. 27-13 feels right. Hopefully, our passing game continues to improve. If not, SEMO averaged 6 yards per rush on them last weekend. Meanwhile, SIU averaged 2 yards. Shut that down, make them one dimensional, and pressure their QB should be our defensive game plan.

Don't be fooled, the backup QB from SIU has plenty of arm talent to dice us, if given the opportunity. Complacency and feeling comfortable gets us beat. This will be a very tough one no doubt. A little variety in the coverage looks he expects will go a long way and let Gaes and the boys upfront cause havoc. 100% agree, don't let them run the ball effectively at all.

It's going to be interesting to see how we can move the ball against them. Their D line is good sized and quick, meaning in am not sure how our running game will look. We have to stretch the field.

I think you'll see us stretch the field if for only to get something on tape that future opponents need to think about. We appear to be opening up and building out the playbook as the season progresses.

I was there last year. It was a 4 quarter fist fight

Does anyone else see irony in us having a thread discussing wishes to move to FBS while approximately 20% of the dome is unsold for a massive MVFC opener?

That being said, I buy (8) tickets on 40 yard line west side. (4) are spoken for. Anyone need tickets for tomorrow ? Row 1
Send me a message if so. I’ll be driving to Vermillion from 2-4 today so anything after 2 will get answered when I get there.

Not directly related to the game vs the Salukis, but Emory Hunt of cbssports.com has some great comments on the Coyote secondary in this article

More just shame and embarrassment. Sure, we could do better, but this projects to be a larger crowd than the YSU, UND, and Sac State games from last year. We’re trending positively. I anticipate tailgate vibes will be incredible.
