This will be the last week I type "Fighting Sioux" in conjuction with discussing the UND football team. Weird.
Good to be taking some momentum into the final game of the season and had a chance to heal up and work on a few things this past weekend.
I will say this, I don't care how big you thought some of the games were this season this is the only one that matters, this is the Game of the Year. It's North Dakota. It's a chance for a share of the conference. It's in a place where we haven't won since 1985. It could be the last chance we get to beat the Sioux on the gridiron for a very, very, very long time.
I firmly believe we have a better, more athletic, more talented team that UND does this year. That doesn't matter, they are at home and this game means as much to them as it does to us. I look for the Coyotes to finally kill the demons and beat the Sioux in a close, close game.

It's a really long, ultra-boring drive to Grand Forks but I'm going. I hope a lot of other Yote fans can go too!

Should be a really good game. UND has regressed offensively it would seem, as we have not been able to run the ball as effectively lately. Part of this is probably due to inconsistent QB play, as well as some injuries along the offensive line. I don't see any reason that they would be able to score too much on USD. However, the defense has played well, but really need to quit giving up so many big plays. I think that if USD can get the passing game opened up early, then they should be able to also establish a good running presence as the game wears on. I really think that this will be a very close, well fought game.
How are the Yotes doing healthwise? Any glaring injuries? UND is without two starting offensive lineman (although one went down very early in the year), probably their best defensive lineman, and their best WR. Seems that people have stepped up relatively well in their absence, so hopefully a little bit of a lack of depth won't play to much of a factor in the game for the Sioux.

Lets kill two birds with one stone. Get both the UND and road monkey off our back. USD 28-10. Go Yotes.

One thing i will say, This team may be 0-4 on the road, but the way they played against cal poly was a winning type EFFORT just didnt make the plays late, was that because they were on the road? hell no it just didnt happen. I really think we as fans look into it more then the players have, which IMO is a good thing I think they will come out fast and furious in GF this weekend. USD 28 UND 14

I'm a little confused about something. After Saturday's win over S&T, Ed Meierkort was quoted as saying something to the effect of, 'its us against the world, nobody thinks we can win a road game.' Then today in the Grand Forks Herald he said something like, 'we havent won a road game in a while' (i'm off a little on the quote).
Well, which is it? Are people picking on you or do you now realize how bad the road record has been?
Not meaning for this to sound negative, just caught me by surprise a little bit.

Greg Hardin was und leading wide out and best deep threat apparently broke his leg against usf. Feel sorry for the young man, however this does help the yotes.

Naturally, I'm hoping for a big win, but have not seen evidence we have the ability to win on the road.
ND - 27 SD - 24
Hope to be proven wrong.
Go Yotes.

I would love nothing more than to see the Coyote win this game and have something to be excited about to end the year but 1985 is a damn long time ago and there is usually a reason why.
We also have to remember that the Alerus can act as a good home field advantage just as the Dakotadome has for the Yotes.
For those picking the Yotes to win I would probably be inclined to choose a score that is not reminisent of a game that comes down to the last possession. To my recollection the last time the Yotes won a game that was close at the very end and was decided by the last possession was Central Washington way back in the D2 days. I may be wrong but the overwelming trends say the Yotes need to have this game out of reach before the final seconds of the contest. The Cal Poly win a couple of years ago wasn't truley a last possession type of game because the Mustangs had to recover an onside kick and only had time for a hail mary at the end.
The Yotes may want this game but North Dakota is going to want it just as much. We have to remember their are two sides to every coin :-)
I have to go with the Sioux 17-6 in a low scoring slugfest.

Wonder what effect the weather will have on travel plans for both the team and the fans. I do believe in addition to Midco (Missing) Sports Network, the game will also be broadcast of Fox College Sports Central, which will give people without access to Midontinent Cable a chance to watch the game.
My prediction - if the Yotes score over 17, they win the game & they will by about a 27 -17 margin.

This is going to be a fun game to watch I am looking forward to Saturday. If UND get this game into a ugly defensive game they have a shot. If USD takes the lead early.. it could be over. In fact, I think UND would switch QBs. I am giving USD the advantage based on the following.
- Mobile QB can give UND trouble. They have had a couple of injuries and the current starters are getting more reps. They could run out of gas.
- Balanced attack - looking at the stats USD is very balanced between run and pass. This will help with the play action vertical attack. USD has the play makers to blow past UND corners. Plus, UND has been caught several times peeking in the backfield - NOTE: UNC WR had over 200 yards and two or three TDs this year (two of them 70/80 yards plays). Plus last year Blount blew past Macky like he was standing still and Powell made two incredible plays.
- It sounds like Broders and Potter are having nice years. If they shut down the run.. UND is in trouble.
NOTE: Congrats on the get SS has a post that you guys got a 3 star DE commit from Lee Summit.

fssd,
I am going to add one thing to your post. If USD does get the lead, it important that they keep trying to extend it because the best way to preserve a lead is to build on it. USD can be ok with the lead but it seems like just one score is all it takes to turn the tide completely around.
This is what I would like to see. I would like to see the Coyote come out all guns blazing and play like that from beginning to end. Blitz, Blitz, Blizt on D and thrown the rock around on offense. I would like to see Dante play to his strengths and call alot of option run pass plays where he rolls out takes a look down field and either runs or passes outside the pocket. He seems his best when he is running the football.
I felt alot of Meierkort's decision making was good at Cal Poly. He played to win and I will give him kudos for thinking that way because that is different than the usual road mentality. I would like to see the Coyotes go out and take it rather than hoping UND doesn't get it before they do.
The average or even above average road game is not going to win. We have been trying for years. I say don't do the conventional. Work on things all week to surprise the Sioux. Let UND be the team in reaction mode trying to adjust to what USD is going. It's hard to be agressive when reactive all the time so lets stick it to em and play (sorry to say it) Non Coyote road football.

I agree with staying aggressive... but USD is the better team. They just need to execute and not make mistakes. If they let UND stay in the game they could be in trouble because the Sioux has found a way to win this year. Best of luck to the Yotes and best of luck in the MVFC next year.
