In the future? That is what this is all about IMO. New arena, 15,000-16,000 seat Dome. I think the AD wants a contender to go with the upgraded facilities. After the construction, USD's facilites will be comparable UNI's so I would say they will be in the upper crust of the MVFC.
USD won't contend in the MVFC if they can't win on the road, that's just fact.

While I feel some sadness for Coach Ed's departure after guiding us through a difficult transition, I also am completely impressed and excited with the leadership shown in this situation. In the past I'm afraid a difficult decision like this one would be kicked down the road. Not Sayler!! Nice....and great for USD!!! Sayler's leadership is getting my money.
Go Yotes!!! Exciting new era to come!!!

My thought was he should have another year. Switching coaches is tough no matter when it happens but going into a new conference....then again, maybe that's an ideal time to switch. Well, I don't envy guys like the A.D. but I think he gets good marks since he's been in his office and until there's evidence to suggest otherwise, you have to support his decision. Why would you fire someone who has dOne so much for your school in Justine last few years What does that mean? I'm trying to read that sentence and determine if there's a disguised meaning.

This was Meierkort's other year. The year did not go well for USD outside of beating Minnesota, which it seems most teams could do last year, anyway. After last year, Ed was given this year to prove he could build a better than mediocre product.

As much as i thought a change was needed, i figured Meirkort was safe for at least a year. Kudos to Saylor for making the tough decision with haste.
Next year might be difficult, but I now am feeling a surge of optimism with this display of leadership.
Go Yotes!

Sayler made the right call and made it at the right time.
Ed had his day in the sun (9/11/2010, to be exact.) Lets move on to the future.
No question the MVFC is going to be a very tough go. However, the quality of the conference may help with the search.
Is there a Salem on the horizon here?
Imagine the possibilities.

Kudos to Sayler for making this decision. To qualify for the FCS playoffs low budget schools like USD and SDSU will need 8 wins vs. FCS or FBS schools. Sayler realized the current coach was not going to get them their and decided to go after a coach and staff he thinks will. Short term, it may be a long 2012 season in Vermilion, but long term is probably the right move.

There will be "growing pains" for a few years.

Lake Bison,
Will any of NDSU's staff be on USD's list of possible replacements?

Sayler has been making many decisions that I agree with.

If I was a Jacks fan I would seriously want him to stay as well. A Jacks fan that didn't want USD to be a real threat in the MVFC. Now at least we have a chance. USD will lead the way between the two schools in being the first to hire a new coach for a major sport.
