Interesting listen all around. What sticks out to me is how much Ed seemed surprised by everything. He was surprised he was fired. He was surprised at what many teams threw at him from a gameplanning standpoint. It certainly seems to me that Ed was quite lacking in the preperation area. He is surprised by way too much. He certainly had to know that his 2-15 FCS road record could lead to his demise but maybe he was also surprised that he was 2-15 in FCS road games. I wonder if he knew that without being told first. His program simply had amnesia and didn't learn from the past and retain that knowledge for the betterment of the future. Time to leave mediocracy behind for what will hopefully be great times ahead. This right here, IMO. I can only go by what I saw in the FargoDome last year but this seems pretty accurate to me. Bison made adjustments at half and blew out USD in the 2nd half but the USD coaches didn't make the same game time adjustments. After USD marched down the field on their 1st possession and scored I thought....." go great, another spread type team giving us trouble".....then when the Bison made adjustments, USD didn't counter with any of their own. You guys know more about his coaching than my one game sample but the way he coached that game surprised me....just saying.... Hope your AD brings in a good fit for USD. What you are saying is VERY true and has a long trend of happening. There are little no true adjustments. What really caught my eye to this was in Mankato back in 2006. USD allowed the MSU receivers literally 10 yards or more of cushion and never adjusted to the down and out and screen passes that were being thrown at them. It was alarmingly a sign of things to come for the program. USD lost that game and if they would have won would have had a home playoff game and an easier route through the playoffs. By what Sayler said on TV about wanting more discipline within the football program hints at just what we have been talking about. USD has improved as of late but they used to have all kinds of bad penalties that really cost them in games.

Just read that all of his staff is remaining intact... I find this very interesting. I wonder how many of them will stay or follow Ed to wherever. It's going to be up to the new coach how this all plays out. Whoever it is better be allowed to have his own staff or we have disturbing thing #1 about the new hire process.

If I was David Sayler, I would not call Joel Nielsen. Are you serious? Just because he worked here and he hired a coach at Kent State? I think it's easy enough to see the midwest coaches on the standings on ESPN. You make Sayler sound like an idiot. Yeah, the staff remains intact for recruiting, but don't be surprised if some of them stay on. Remember, Ed was good at throwing his assistants under the bus, too. Of course something feels wrong. If you watched KELO's interview and heard the words out of Sayler's mouth, you know there is more to this than on-the-field performance, which makes it feel even more right. He kept mentioning discipline, leadership and academics ... seems kind of familiar right. Heard that with the Penn State story last night how Joe Pa did not give any discipline to his players. This is not the same situation, but seems a little interesting. I very much hope that the onfield performance had alot to do with the firing. It it truley wasn't a big factor than I become more skeptical of us truley being in it to win it. It sounded to me like winning wasn't everything to Sayler but a very important priority in a new coach. It darn better be.

There are some rumors (unsubstatiated up to this point) that there was some significant damage done to the visitors locker room at the Alerus. If this is true, which I have no idea of, could that have also been part of what may have led to his dismissal?

What are you referring too? He's referring to, which is at this point still a rumor, that the visitors locker room was trashed and damaged by the USD football team. Writers from the Grand Forks Herald have heard about this as well but at this point, it still hasn't been confirmed. However, if it is true then I gotta say that is quite disappointing. Not a classy thing to do when the game was probably the last time UND and USD will play each other in football for quite a while. So I hope it isn't true.

I agree that if true it's a dispicable act. If they would have take their anger out on the Sioux instead of the lockerroom maybe they would have held on to win.

Is anyone hearing a rumor about a sexual assault investigation going on right now in Vermillion? I heard there is an investigation currently going on involving a USD graduate assistant and a female allegedly occurring at the Dome. Hope it is not true.
