It looks like both our teams are coming off of wins and have some momentum on our sides. It should be a pretty good game! Feel free to post at aggiesportstalk.yuku.com/forums/63

Hey Quad, looks like you and I may be the only ones on this board. Hey Yotes, get fired up for a good game.

Not the only ones but it takes alot to get many USD fans motivated. In another post it was discussed that since USD football was so bad from basically the mid to late 80's until 2004 that an entire generation was lost because of it. As chance would have it that same generation is also likely to be highly active on internet discussion. Some how I slipped through the cracks. I started being a fan full time in 1991 which to say the least was a brutal time for Coyote football. I don't know how I did it but I think the basketball team made up for it with their success. During the 1990's if there would have been a message board I probably would have gotten banned for getting too angry most of the time. I would have probably been the only registered user aside from the administrator ;-)
Going into this game this is the most evenly matched game where I think it could go either way with the final score.
If UC Davis can slow down USD's offense I think they have a really good chance to win. If USD can play disciplined and keep the defense off the field like against UND I think the Coyotes have a good chance. When thinking of this game it reminds me of 1986 which was my first memory ever of Coyote sports.
Often times midwestern teams will line up and try to play smash mouth against teams from California hoping to take advantage of size and negate the speed disadvantage. USD isn't that type of team this year. The Coyotes might look more like a team you'd typcially see on the west coast then a true midwestern team. At least on offense.

This game all depends on which USD team shows up. The good, hard fighting, disciplined road Coyote team that we saw against Minny, last year against Cal Poly and Southern Utah, or the bad Coyote team like the second half against NDSU. If the good Coyote travelling team shows up they win, no doubt. If the bad one shows UC-D should win.

When thinking of this game it reminds me of 1986 which was my first memory ever of Coyote sports. I was a student when we first started playing the dakota teams. I was at the game in 1986. If you guys are coming out for the game, stop by the Aggie Board tailgate and introduce yourselves. We are on the north side of the stadium. Weather should be nice, low 80s at gametime.

I must admit, we have not played 4 quarters of football this season. If we play like we did in the last half against SJ, and you guys show up with your A game, this could be fun.

Yote 53,
It almost seems like an every other week team with the Yotes. They show up one week get embarrassed by some things and than really focus to improve and come out playing better. Than when things are looking good again maybe they relax or letup too much with the finer things and end up getting bitten in the tail.
I think on the defensive side of the ball Chuck seems like the kind of coach that won't tolerate stupid on field actions long term so I see the D side keeping their act clean. We will see, just the gut feeling that comes from the impression I get out of Morrell.
There is also some special teams play that needs to improve. Has a team in FCS had more kicks blocked then the Yotes. Also has any FCS team had more kickoffs go out of bounds. Here is what I would do with the kicking game. If the kicks don't start getting placed correctly and at least as far back as the 10 yard line why not just go to a mostly squib kick game. Typcially what happens on a squib kick is that it ends up going straight down the middle of the field and isn't fielded cleanly by the first hands. Then often time a scramble occurs. 1 out of every 15 times the ball ends up being a 50/50 scrum to see which teams recovers the ball. The other times either one of the up backs ends up fielding the ball with a much shorter return negating some of the field position lost from a shorter kick. I say go with the squib game and compare the results than when not doing a squib. I think the results would be more suprisingly positive than most people would think. The average results seems to be the opponent getting the ball at their own 30 with a bit of uneasiness gaining possession. On a long kickoff that doesn't get to the 10 yard line on the kick probably ends up coming out just as far with the added bonus of a real possibility of a much longer return. On a squib the chances or a long return are alot less.

Last year, Ganious ran for 79 yards against Davis, with a solid average of 5.6 per carry. Noah added 68 on the ground and tossed for 311. That was in the Dome.
I believe Davis returns 17 starters, and I believe this is their homecoming. If USD brings a dynamic offensive gameplan out west, I could see USD putting up similar numbers, but we'll need another DDays-style effort from our defense if we want to win.
If Aggies fans are wondering, USD is offensively stacked at the skill positions. QB Dante Warren has been a terror for opposing defenses. The WRs are tremendous. Our running game has been inconsistent, but I believe it will only get better. Defense has some question marks. We struggle to pressure opposing qbs. We are, however, coming off a tremendous effort against UND. That's the team in a nutshell. I'm curious to learn more about this year's UC Davis team.
Another interesting note: the Yotes and Aggies both have tremendous punters.

I'm curious to learn more about this year's UC Davis team. . This is what I wrote on another thread: Should be a really good match-up again this year. In your opinion, is UC Davis improved from last year? If so how, and what has been the strength of the team so far this year? We are a weaker team this year. We have some key injuries on defense, we lost our starting QB to the ministry, and we are starting a red shirt freshman at QB as a result. He has great potential, a good arm, but is inexperienced compared to our long history of great QBs. He will eventually get there. Unfortunately, our receivers are dropping passes which does not help our QB. We played our best football of the season yesterday against a hurting FBS team. The Aggies need to put together 4 quarters of football on both sides. Next week is our homecoming. With school back in session, the stadium should have a good turn out. What kind of crowd can we expect from SD? Read more: usdcoyotesports.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=5#ixzz11S8MItmO

Should be sunny with a high of 85 deg on Saturday in Davis - maybe in the 70's at game time. This is the first home game with students so it should be a decent crowd. Most of us who post on the Aggie board are in or around section 120, not far from the visitors section. I'm guessing an Aggie win because of home field advantage but I think we match up pretty closely. It should be a good game.

41-29 USD
Total stab in the dark - have seen zero film of UC Davis - have only looked at scores and am looking back to the game I saw last year in Vermillion. Unless you have a strong, physical rushing attack - I think USD's defense will have enough to keep UC Davis from scoring more than the Yote Offense.
If USD loses from missing extra-points this year I may gouge my eyes out.

It will come back to haunt us some day. I don't think Ed's big into schollies for kickers, but they can be an intregal part of our team. I think the game Saturday defines who we are. Can we win on the road in a very important conference matchup? I like our chances. Prediction: Coyotes jump out to early lead and hang on USD 28 UC-Davis 24

Well I would say that UC Davis does not have a strong, physical rushing attack. We sometimes have some good running, but you will see mostly passing. We do have an excellent kicker and an excellent punter - something we haven't always had in the past.

The kicker...the kicker from last year at West Central really wanted to go to USD. They didn't really give him a look as they only wanted the kid from STM. Wenk has been kicking up a storm at Southwest Minnesota State. I think USD's kicker has done a good job considering a year ago he was kicking against schools like Hill City and Belle Fourche and right out of the gate he had to kick against Central Florida and Minnesota. After last year there should have been no question that the kicking game can determine the outcome.

Anyone have any experience with the football game video feeds through usdcoyotes.com? I want to say that Buffalo Wild Wings last year projected an Internet feed of the UNI game, but I'm not sure if that was off the UNI site or our site.
It would be cool to get a similar set up for the UC-Davis game, assuming the USD feed works reasonably well. Otherwise I'm pretty sure the game isn't on any satellite channel.
