We won't play any lower level game for one reason, one good reason, playoffs. If it's not a D1 opponent it doesn't count so there is no point playing it. Augie? USF? You guys are off your rocker. We want every single game on the schedule to be against a D1 school, but due to scheduling issues we will play lower level schools from time to time. Given the choice of a home game against William Penn or no game at all we will take the lower level opponent. That opponent will never be someone from SD though.

If playoffs were the sole reason the University wouldn't sell themselves out for a FBS game that is nearly a certain loss either. They would schedule another FCS game. Drake is a who cares game and a no win game. If you win it's no big deal but if it is a loss it's a very bad loss. Laugh at a USF or Augie game but it would draw much more interest then Drake would. If USD uses the argument that by playing USF or Augie it would be embarrassing to lose (and that would be a slight possibility) then there are more problems then that to worry about. If the Coyotes are going to the playoffs they have to start with finishing at least 4-4 in the conference. Until they do that they are likely not going to post season anyway.

Unless or until someone comes up with an endowment of about $10 million to supplement USD's annual football operations, I think scheduling an FBS opponent every year is a fact of life. It is one I welcome because: 1) win or lose it gives the football program some degree of exposure; 2) a loss doesn't necessarily affect the team's chances for a playoff bid; and 3) shall we say "hope springs eternal". In other words, in any given year we may have yet another Minnesota-like result.
Of course, if we didn't "sell ourselves out for an FBS game" we wouldn't have had that victory would we?
Scheduling down to the Division II level, let me just say that I personally have no interest in seeing the Yotes play any team from Sioux Falls unless they're Division I. If I had wanted to see a football game between us and Augie/USF we should just have stayed at the D II level ourselves.

Worth noting that they bye weeks are weeks 7 & 9 in 2020 & 2021. This is a change from week 4 before the conference games as has been customary the last several years. Have to think it is MVFC wide. Much better placements for purpose of rest during season.

I think that it's stupid that the league has had their bye week before league play even starts for so long. What sense does that make?

Forgot about the odd number factor.

2019 Schedule is now complete. Will open at home on Aug 31 against Montana, visit the Sooners on Sept 7, host Houston Baptist on Sept 14 and head to Greeley on Sept 21 and start the 8 game conference schedule on Oct 5

Last time we hosted Montana we ended up making two trips to Missoula in return (perhaps one of those was a paycheck game for us). According to this release we will make just one return trip to Missoula in 2022 this time around.
No mention of ever returning the trip to Houston Baptist. 2016 was just their 4th year of having a football team, though they are FCS members in the Southland.

Have to say, your 2019 schedule is really really good. As for the Montana return, USD have earned a one for one, you aren't new to FCS any longer. You won't be going to Missoula twice. You also won't likely make a return trip to Houston Baptist. USD is way above HB in the FCS pecking order. If it were McNeese or one of the Texas schools it would be a one for one. Not likely with Houston Baptist. Oh, and Yote53 is 100% correct. USD will NEVER schedule USF or Augie just like SDSU will never schedule them. It may get you attention, but not the type of attention you want. By playing them you are saying to the average sports fan in SF who is not a Coyote fan that they are at your level. It will NEVER happen. Win or lose you lose playing either of those schools.

I really like this 2019 schedule too. HB coming out of Southland is a good get in non-conference because it gets us away from the Big Sky a little.

Maybe by the time the Montana game is actually played South Dakota and Montana will be in the same conference and will start playing every year.

This truly is a terrific schedule and one where I think I can attend every game home and away. I'm really looking forward to Oklahoma just to experience game day atmosphere there. It'll be interesting to see how it compares to Lincoln.
